Would you rather go 9-8 by taking the air out of the ball and beating crappy teams or go 6-11 while having KP take his lumps by actually running an NFL offense that can compete this year? Obviously you don’t want his confidence crushed or getting hurt but assuming those wouldn’t happen…..

Neither way you are winning anything last year but at least develop a guy running a real offense. This year is almost like another rookie year if we actually throw the ball downfield or middle of the field for him.

The Steelers were in pace to finish the season with only 4-5 wins and destroy Pickett's confidence. The second half of last season allowed the steelers to build on something and allow Kenny to gain confidence, which happened...nothing negative about that

It's never a good idea for the players to quit and for a coach, it's always a good idea to give your team the best chance to win

That's a fair question. Some have posted that not throwing over the middle is more perception than reality. Part of it is the limitations of their quarterbacks in the last two years. Roethlisberger was a shell of his former self in 2021. Pickett was a rookie who got third-team reps through training camp and the season's opening weeks. Tomlin definitely deserves criticism for not firing Canada. I criticized him and the organization for it and I still believe keeping him was a big mistake.

That's the thing. You can't assume that wouldn't have hurt Pickett's progress. You can't assume it wouldn't have gotten him hurt.

Also, it was a real offense. Teams can win some games and maybe even sneak into the playoffs running an offense like that. They can't win a Super Bowl with it, but your implication that they couldn't develop Pickett with that approach is nonsense. He was still seeing NFL defenses. He was still reading complex defenses at full speed with opposing players coming for him. He was also able to have some success, especially in the biggest moments. That has value.

The notion that Pickett lacks upside is nonsense, too. It comes from people who think a player has to have an arm like Mahomes or Allen to have upside, but the larger issue is how a quarterback grows in the mental aspects of the game. Does he have the intelligence to learn from his coaches and experiences? Does he have the ability to apply those lessons as his career progresses? Can he process what he sees faster and more accurately with experience? Can he gain confidence in his ability to attack the defense as his knowledge improves? Pickett did those things at Pitt. He developed from a mediocre quarterback into one of the best in the country. If anything, I think he is more likely to make a jump in years two and three than someone who relies more heavily in a cannon arm because he has shown the mental capacity to take advantage of what experience brings.

Yes you can’t 100% assume he wouldn’t have been hurt or his confidence wouldn’t have been damaged so it’s not a fair question I rescind it.

But according to some fans those wins at the end of the season don't mean much because they only beat crappy teams.

I don't think Tomlin could've fired Canada even if he wanted to, Art ll doesn't pay coaches to sit at home.

    so you think beating the

    Saints
    Colts
    Falcons
    Panthers
    Raiders
    Ravens (minus Lamar)
    Browns

is freaking impressive? Do you even know the records of those teams? Ridiculous man keep acting like things are perfect when this organization can’t even win a playoff game. Real fans because you are a moronic homer?

Let’s get Earnie back you clowns act like it’s the 1970s all over.

I didn’t even say 3 in 12…. This is a different conversation about this dominant end of season the Steelers had.

KC lost to the Colts a 4-12-1 team. They should take away their SB....Andy Reid always plays down to the competition. See How dumb that is. No You don't....this will go right over Your head.

So you are impressed by beating those teams? :roflmao:

    You be you my man.

Why would they take away the championship? They actually win playoff games. As usual no clue what you are blabbering about.

Was it a criticism of Tomlin in the past for not beating the below average team....But when he does that, he has no credit even when the steelers in 2022 were below average in talent... .You can't be both ways!

For the schedule, it was not that awful...I mean in 2022

The saints beat the eagles(no Hurts but still)
    The colts beat the chiefs
    The falcons beat the 49ers
Panthers beat the lions when they were red hot
Raiders almost beat the chiefs(on the road) and the 49ers
Ravens almost beat the bengals in the playoffs without Lamar

You are talking about 1 game outliers sure any given Sunday I get that. However the numbers don’t lie out of the 7 wins for the second half only 1 came against a playoff team and that was without their starting QB. It’s obviously better to win those games then lose them but context matters. Regardless on to this season we shall see how dominant this team is soon. After that gauntlet to end last season the momentum should be high.

That's how the NFL works. Almost all teams don't face mostly playoff teams. Here is a perfect example. This is who the San Fransisco 49ers beat. They are a juggernaut according to many.

    San Fransisco 49ers 13-4

    Seahawks 9-8
    Rams 5-12
    Panthers 7-10
    Rams 5-12
    Chargers 10-7
    Cardinals 4-13
    Saints 7-10
    Dolphins 9-8
    Buccaneers 8-9
    Seahawks 9-8
    Commanders 8-8-1
    Raiders 6-11
    Cardinals 4-13

    They lost to:

    Bears 3-14
    Broncos 5-12
    Falcons 7-10
    Chiefs 14-3

They beat 4 teams with a winning record.

They lost to 3 teams with a losing record.

They play in a weaker division than the Steelers. That is why they had an easy run. This is common in the NFL. The Steelers are not the only team playing teams with not so great records.

The Steelers also beat the Bengals. That is a far better win than any the 49ers had. And the Steelers had far better losses than the 49ers.

Do you see what I am saying?

And you can do the same with eagles and other teams...The eagles had only 1 win against a team with 10 or more wins last year in the regular season and it was against Dallas and their backup QB...Their playoffs win were against a giants team that have gone further than they could go and a 49ers team without a QB!

If you look at their 2021 season, the eagles(9-8) were 0-6 against playoffs team....
