Put him in shotgun and forget the running game....Let him pass it 50 times and ride him as far as he will take them

The out routes need to be thrown out of the playbook first.

I like your banner but Te'o is going top 10 if not top 5 so unless we are trading up it isn't going to happen.

 

Ben isn't good enough for us to abandon the running game and throw 50 times per game.

It's also sad that a guy who is considered elite can't throw a simple out route.

 

It's not like the o-line can protect him. It's a little too late in the season to unleash anything this team is done. Time to reload.

If a team takes him top 5 they are idiots. Te'o is a great player...and would be a good fit for us...but he is not the freak that Patrick Willis is....Te'o is a great football player...but not a great athlete....I feel Te'o is top 15ish....he will run slow at the combine...and everyone will suddenly question him compared to the physical specimens that will be faster, stronger, and put up decent college numbers. (That being said...still have to trade up for him) Just my opinion

 

Our running game is a joke. The only running play we run is variations of the draw play. Doesn't matter which play we run, Ben runs back to the RB, pauses, and hands the ball to him. The back then proceeds to get hit in the backfield. What happened to hitting the hole? I'm not even bringing in the whole "use a fullback" issue. The basic scheme for our running game simply makes no sense. We actually hit the hole fairly quickly and sometimes used a fullback during those 3 games where we had success running the football. What happened to those plays? My complaints about "slow-developing" running plays has dated back to the Bruce Arians days. By the time our backs get the ball, half the defense is already on them. And everytime we go with an empty backfield, the defense knows that there is no possibility of us running. It makes us one-dimensional.

 

To do what??? throw the ball short or throw the ball into the turf??? yeah thats gonna get you far.

 

Obviously you missed the first couple of series where they clearly tried to establish the pass.

Ben can scramble, yes, but it also takes a line to protect him (occasionally), and receivers to run round and eventually get open. Heath cannot be forgotten. It is a team game.

 

I have wondered about our weird running game, too. Why are our backs so far back, and why does Ben have to run to them. Shouldn't they be full steam and run up to him? By the time they get to the line, the holes are clogged, and success often happens by bouncing it outside, or dancing or spinning. Our QB thrives on the scramble, and our RBs often have to improvise too. The plays they must run in practice all week rarely seem to go quite as planned. Says something about scouting and practice to me. Does anyone watch any film?
