True, but more big play on offense,it will help a lot too.The steelers had only 2 TD outside of the red zone last year!

The steelers can't hope to have 55% on 3rd down like they were in the second half of last season if they want to have a good offense....3rd down is a crucial stats but being less often in 3rd down is also crucial ....the margin of error must be bigger to be successful

They were better in 2022 that 2021 but they still need to have another step foward in this stats to have a better offense

OC's are easy to blame in an offensive driven league. How many OC's were blamed in the Burgh?

Ben owned the offense before Canada arrived. Ben owned the offense when Canada arrived.

Let's get real stability and consistent performance at the QB position before we blame Canada for this offenses failures.

Coaches generally get opportunities based on player performance.

Canada got the opportunity because the Steelers knew him and ultimately because KP endorsed bringing Canada back.

Yeah, I have seen enough of those fade passes into the endzone to Diontae, they rarely seem to work.

I have always hated the fade. From anyone to anyone. Although it can work, and does. I still always hated it.

Good thing I read your post before I said it doesn't make me feel good since the Lions are involved;)

Don't pay much heed to NFC but I'm guessing the Lions had a decent second half?????

You are forgetting (not surprising with your handle;) what Lee Trevino (great old time Golfer) said about fades. "You can talk to a fade but a draw got a mind of it's own". Something like that.**

** If you know nothing about Golf forget the above statement. If you do know a little about it: Lee would aim 25-30 yards left of target. Guy played an amazing fade 90% of his shots. He had trouble on courses that favored guys who drew the ball.

I always had the opposite problem. I grew up playing baseball so I always gripped the club like a baseball bat. When I connected it was like driving a homer over the left field wall.

What are the asterix for beside the teams listed?

Redzone offense has been an issue and ‘focus’ for a few seasons and a couple OCs already.
That was one thing about the ‘Killer B’ era, redzone meant points.

I personally believe arm strength is one of the most overrated aspects of QB evaluation. It didn’t work out to well for Jamarcus Russell. I would take pocket presence, vision, processing ability and accuracy as well as mobility over arm strength any day of the week.

It's hard to rebuild an offense in a single year. Especially the "Steeler way" without handing out huge salaries to overpaid FA's to hope they fix the issues. It is encouraging that the last part of the season in terms of actually moving the ball they were largely successful. They still had to do it stringing together 3rd down conversions (due to lack of big plays) and too often had drives end in FG's. An improved OL and a QB that is no longer a rookie should help us out immensely in that part of the field and I expect us to be much better in that regard this season.

Canada has shouldered a lot of the blame, but in his defense in 2021 we had the worst OL in the league, a rookie starting RB, a rookie starting TE, and our WR room for most of the year was Claypool/DJ/Washington/McCloud because of JuJu's injury. The vet in that room was 25. Over half of our starters were rookies or second year players and only Trai Turner and Ben were older than 25. It doesn't change overnight, and I think we have done a pretty solid job filling out the offense with young talent (adding Pickett, Pickens, Jones, and Washington since that time) and filling out the rest of the roster with solid vets (mostly on the OL in Seumalo, Daniels, and Cole.. but Robinson is not to be dismissed). I expect we will see better results as a whole just due to the fact that our starters aren't the average age of 24.2 outside of Ben (in 2021) and our QB situation is stable.

Lots of optimism. It certainly doesn't mean that we can't fall on our faces, but I don't think that we will.

Good point but to have real progress on offense, Canada and Tomlin have to give freedom to Kenny and the offense, like changing plays when it's obvious from the start that the play is not going to work and not being too conservative

It's 2023 and it's hard to always hope to win by scores like 20-16 against very good teams....Time of possession means nothing now in the NFL, unless you have too many 3 and out in offense, that's a killer but more big play is what matters most

For sure, but Kenny will have to earn that freedom too. He was just a rookie last year and still has plenty of room to develop into the guy we hope he can be. Ben had limitations and constraints for a couple years early on and we can't just assume Kenny will be ready to be THE GUY in his first full season of starting just because he is 25 and not 22. I think he will get there, but getting there will involve some sort of success early on this year.

True. The main thing will be whether or not we can be a good red zone offense. We were 51.9% TD's last season. Getting that closer to 60% and being in the top 10 will definitely help us in the ppg category. Explosive plays should come as KFP and the offense improve, but I think the biggest strides can be made with Red Zone performance.

Jamarcus Russell was a complete waste. He refused to work at his trade and expected everything to be just handed to him. Not a fair comparison. When Kenny throws the out to the sidelines the ball has to have velocity in order to get there on time. I'm willing to wait to see how he does with all the throws. I will take a good QB with very good arm strength anytime. Who knows maybe he has that quality and will be fine. I hope so

The second half of last year is why I`m optimistic about his year.

We tried to win with conservative play, then, if necessary, let Kenny open it up.

Now the trick is not to wait until the end of the game to open things up on offense when we play playoff contenders.
