i know he's had his moments and the money would be something they would have to consider but boswell had another bad year. he missed 10 FG's. that 30 points left on the field which could have turned into a couple of wins or more. the kid from clemson is in camp this year. will he get a fair shake and would we consider a change? i believe the punt game will get some consideration with mann in camp but what about our other kicker? boz did make all his extra points last year. that's the first time since 2019 he has done that.

Unless the Clemson kicker badly out kicks Boswell in training camp, the Steelers will go with Boz this season. But if he has another year of missing 8 or more FGs especially if some of them are at the end of the game then I think the Steelers will seriously think about moving on next season.

I believe in this game.. they are always looking for younger cheaper, and same or better results.

Boswell did have an arrow pointing down year least season.

Most years he has been good but I have no doubt Coach Tomlin and Steelers brass are going to do a deep look this training camp at a younger leg.

Boswell did have a bad season last year, but he also had a groin injury. I'm not worried about him. Of course his age and salary need to be taken into consideration, but I think we can be ok at kicker for a while longer.

The Steelers are screwed right now. Boswell signed a 4 year extension last year for $20 million; so unless they want to eat $6.4 million this year Boswell is not going anywhere.

He is signed through the end of the 2026 season.

We just have to hope that the injury was the problem with Boswell last year.

You people do LoL. You do realize there is a reason they have been looking at long snappers.
Also if You paid attention the last time He had a so called bad year .....it was after He got paid.
He was.... 4/4 at 20- 29 yards......4/5 at 30 - 39 yards.....5/10 at 40/49 yards...... 7/9 at 50/59 yards.....and this was a bad year. You Guy look at percentages, but not at the kicks. Yes some had better percentages, but they weren't kicking as many long ones.

Between 20 and 39 yds he was 8-9, 7-9 50 yds plus, only 5-10 between 40 and 50, plus only played 12 games. I think his rebound for 3 years after his last bad year gives confidence that the groin injury was most of the issue. Unless he falls off a deep cliff I think they have to keep him with his recent re-signing.

I may be the lone hold out thinking PH3 can be a good punter

But I like Green’s odds over Dotson so what do I know

5/10 at 40/49 yards This is the stat I don't like. Only 50% from that range is not acceptable for an NFL kicker.

I can't find anyone that is even close to being this bad in the 40 - 49 range.

Labriola has covered this a few times in Asked and Answered. His general thoughts have been the Steelers may not see PH3 as much of a problem as the fans do. I know there is much more than average when looking at the stats, but one of the interesting things is his net average is actually is not that far off the majority of the kickers. Much like DJ's drops, his shanks and miscues seem to build more negative than it likely is, however a P miscues will have greater focus simply because they are on the field for only a couple of plays a game.

With the Steelers focus on directional punting, one thing they prefer is to not have their opponent attempt to return any punts. For this reason, return percentage is a key statistic to help evaluate a punter. In 2021, Pressley Harvin had a 38.6% return rate which was tied for 13th in the NFL. In 2022, he improved by seeing the percentage dropped to 34.8% which ranked 5th in the NFL.

I know it is crazy, but to me the 40 - 49 range is where an NFL Kicker needs to be at his best.

Late in the game when you are trying to get down to the opponents 30 yard line to kick a FG to win the game, the last thing you want on your team is a FG Kicker that is 50% from the 30 Yard Line.

LOL. I don't know how accurate this is, but we would have better odds with Kenny Picket 57.5% throwing a pass into the end zone, than Chris Boswell (50%) Kicking a FG from the same line of scrimmage. :)

In the 2022 season, Pickett recorded 477 deep passing yards and four deep passing touchdowns while completing 38.3% of his deep passes. On passes thrown 21 yards or further down the field, Pickett completed 57.5% of his passes which ranked second behind only Geno Smith.

So I guess His 50/59 kicks don't count???
Again if You go look the last time He was bad was the year He got His contract. The whole You rather have Him better at 40/49 than 50/59 doesn't even make sense. LoL

I really believe the injury caused the inconsistency last season. I really think he is going to turn it around this season.

I still have the belief that he is going to make every important kick when he is lining it up. I have faith in him that when he's healthy...he's money.
