    This.

Until proven otherwise... this is basically the AFC at this point. My only pushback with the current list of teams is Jacksonville though it is fair to speculate whether or not this is merely a "One Hit Wonder" type of scenario. Personally I don't think so but we will have to see how the season plays out.

I personally don't expect Tomlin's next contract to be very long. Again, all of this is speculation of course but don't be shocked if it is two to three seasons worth.

As of right now, those three teams are the favorites in the AFC until someone else proves they belong. You never know what team may take that leap, and it could happen this year. There are other teams with a lot of talent that can elevate if a number of factors work out. There are more than a few things that would have to go right, but let's hope our team can put themselves in position to be thought of as a threat for the foreseeable future.

Something hurt Allen that game dude was awful. I think he saw smoking Joey B do that little spin throw in warm ups and knew he was cooked.

I did say "until proven otherwise". I never said change is impossible to stop.

By what criteria? Those with the better chances of getting to the playoffs and winning in the playoffs also have the higher rated QBs.

Coaches like Carroll or Payton have shown the ability to win but it’s been a while since they had those successes. I still believe they are great coaches.

Tomlin and Harbaugh seem to have their teams in the conversation at the end of every reg season, and there is something to be commended for that.

I have seen offensive gurus and defensive innovators come and go as well. Flash in the pan 1-3 year wonder coaches. They usually fall victim to steady and tested fundamental football coaches.

All that to say my top10 current HCs would not follow a ‘normal’ path or reasoning of simple wins/losses and championships.

I know. I agreed with you and just added that others could ascend to join the group.

I would agree with that. A lot depends on how successful the Steelers are this season. If it’s a struggle tomlins got to be thinking of getting on with his life’s work. Specially with 18 years already. If they get to the playoffs or even make noise I can see a short extension. I don’t see a scenario where it’s a long contract

I went with Harbaugh because his teams seemingly overperform every year in the win column. I think of the non-offensive guys Harbaugh is the strongest at the current moment.

I think it all comes down to the QB. If you have a young and talented "QB of the future" you get an offensive guy to bring the best out of him. If you have an established "top 5 QB'' that is on a non-rookie deal, you go defensive at the HC position due to needing to draft and develop defense well with a likely large amount of money tied up in the offensive side of the ball. If you have a stop gap at QB or have no QB at all, you go offensive to hopefully build an elite offense in his image (starting with the QB).

If we fire Tomlin, he will be the hottest name on the market (regardless of whether or not he struggles in the next season or two). Tenured HC with SB success that the players love playing for? Another franchise will scoop him up quickly. He would have to fail again to be seen as a guy that should "get on with his life's work". With current NFL coaching salaries, there would be a lot of incentive to continue coaching until the league tells you you're not HC material anymore. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who is more of a "detractor" when it comes to Tomlin with the Steelers as of late too.

In that eventuality, I could easily see Tomlin landing in Cleveland, Seattle, or New England if those jobs are open.

I'm not talking about firing. If the Steelers have a poor season this year, i could see Tomlin thinking of moving on and the Steelers letting him go. He's got 18 years with the Steelers. Does he want to go through a rebuilding process after all that time? Many coaches wouldn't.

also, i think the super bowl win is being overemphasized. That one win was 15 years ago, with a completely different team. Yeah, he's still a super bowl coach but that title tends to wear out after a while. I doesn't carry as much weight as it once did. Sure, though, if Tomlin still wants to coach, some coach needy team (such as the Browns, Raiders?) will go after him. Being on NFL today or something like that would be option he might consider too, maybe even before taking on another project like the browns.

True, I should have worded it if he moved on... Not that we would necessarily fire him. Lots of money to still be made for him outside of coaching. I'm sure there is a decision for him at some point regarding that. He will get chances in the league to coach for nearly as long as he wants to if he wants to coach. Here or otherwise.

TV contracts pay some big $ and he will be near the top of those salaries - and a lot can be said about the cushiness of doing TV vs. the high pressure of coaching. Ask Cowher about it. But I don't see MT in Cleveland, just our of respect to Pgh and the fans, same as Cowher. I do see a fit in Tampa or MN, two of his last stomping grounds.

And I also see MT realizing he walked into an ideal situation in Pgh: Super Bowl players, staff and franchise. He won't likely walk into any situation like that again and floundering will hurt his legacy. What team is gonna have a young Ben Roethlisberger hanging around, waiting to save MT from his stupid coaching decisions? How many games were won by Ben in the 4th quarter in MT's career in Pgh?

Chuck won COTY on 3 different teams. Ground Chuck. If your gonna throw a weird non-Steeler coach in with the list, mine are Joe Gibbs and Big Tuna.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ch-chuck-knox-dies-at-86-won-coy-three-times/

Knox is the only coach in NFL history to win the Associated Press Coach of the Year award with three different franchises. He won the award in 1973, 1980 and 1984 and finished his career with a 186-147 coaching record, good for a career 56 percent winning percentage.

Mike Norvell has resurrected the FSU program. The Seminoles were a laughing stock when he took over. He currently has this team ranked #4 and the QB, Jordan Travis in Heisman consideration. I think the rebuild of the FSU football program has been nothing short of stellar, if under the radar.

Not a pro HC ranking, but still true.
