Agreed! Ben's prime was throwing to AB under Tomlin, and not winning anything of significance cause Cowher was long gone.

lol.... thanks for proving my point.

That team had some other issues. Bell playing games, Brown being a cancer. While people are quick to blame Tomlin for not controlling his players, I think some of these star players develop close relationships with Rooney and get a sense of protection.

The sad part is there were a ton of high draft picks on those Ds that sucked in the years between the Cowher/Lebeau players and Watt.

And that was when Ben was in his prime... all wasted years.

Ben feeding AB the ball to pad his numbers was part of the problem. As good as that connection was, sometimes they missed opportunities to score points so that AB could get his catches and yards.

    Agreed

Ben did waste his prime years

Imagine what Ben could have done if he worked hard and studied the game

Or imagine if it wouldn't have taken until 2019 to have a competent defense despite having selected a player in defense in the first round from 2013 to 2020...Of course it's Ben's fault if the steelers took players like Jarvis Jones and Artie Burns in the first round!...Or keep the worst DC in steelers history for 7 long years(Keith Butler), a defense that gave 30 points or more in the majority of playoff games under Butler

    Yes

Along with Ben’s shortcomings and lack of adequate effort the above is also correct

Lots of blame to go around heck maybe I didn’t cheer loud enough at home games

Imagine if we had a coach who didn’t regularly play down to weaker competition and rarely out coach/prepare his team for playoff games.

You're giving Cowher too much credit for a guy who went 1-4 at home in the AFCCG .

I also believe Cowher never won an away playoff game until the SB season.

Since the players Cowher drafted and coached retired what does Mike Tomlins playoff record look like? He literally had all his success in the beginning of his career with a loaded team he inherited. You guys really can’t see this? When you have prime Big Ben playing against the Browns and Bengals 4 times a year when they were absolute crap you will win regular season games.

Cowher was not the perfect coach and definitely had some piss poor playoff debacles (Chargers game the apex) but he is 5X the coach Mike Tomlin could ever dream of being.

I'd rather see the Steelers go in the AFC title game and lose than be knocked out way before.

And I only consider the loss to the chargers as awful, the rest of the losses in the AFC title game were either his QB had the worst game of the year and it was against teams that won back to back super bowl

My input won't matter at all, and I'm sure they'll extend him way before the season even starts.

But I'd hold off until after the season. This should be his "prove it" year. No. I don't expect them to be SB contenders. But I DO expect them to be better than last year and make the playoffs (preferably with at least 1 playoff win).

Anything short of that? Heads need to roll. He's not immune.

Why do you hate Ben so bad? Did he wipe his ass on the curtains at your mom's house?

And how exactly do you know whether or not someone is giving their best effort? Just because you don't like an outcome, it doesn't mean a person wasn't doing the best they could. There are many reasons why but I don't feel like writing a book here.

Thank you Ray. Like you stated and I have as well he will get the extension. I would wait.

The argument is that "Who would replace him"? Personally I didn't know much about Tomlin when he was hired. Or Cowher for that matter. Like there is no one out there who could come in and succeed.

Also some throw up the lists of teams that haven't won a playoff game or a Super Bowl for that matter. I don't care about those teams. Comparisons are for losers. I care about what the Steelers are doing. Or haven't done for some time.

Sometimes a little fire under the @ss is a good motivator.

If the knock on Ben was that he didn't always put in the work, so far it looks as though Pickett is the opposite of that. The things I've read about him recently point to all the extra little things he's doing to get better. Let's hope it pays off on the field.
