I absolutely do not think Garrett is better than Watt, but a lot of National Pundits and PFF think he is even Madden thinks he is. You now see names like Bosa and Parsons being rated above Watt as well.

I know I am a homer but even stripping that away and looking at this objectedly (is that word), I still can not see how Watt is not rated the best.

    TJ Watt

    · Watt played three more games than Garrett.

    · Watt had 70 more Total Tackles.

    · Watt Had 11 More Tackles For Loss.

    · Watt has three more Sacks.

    · Watt has 20 more QB Hits.

    · Watt has 10 more Forced Fumbles nearly double of Garrett.

    · Watt has 3 more Fumble Recoveries.

    · Watt has nearly triple the Passes Defense with 24 more.

    · Watt has 6 Interceptions to Garretts 0.

Watt also gets double teamed nearly every play if not chipped at minimum by the TE or RB. Also Watt does not rush nearly 100% of the time as does Garrett.

A more formidable comparison for Watt is Nick Bosa. Micah Parson rushes from the ILB a lot as well so to me he isn’t a true Edge.

    He's not better. Period.
He's picked as being better the same reason Lamar Jackson is picked as being better than Burrow. Nothing more ....nothing less.

Look at how he phrased it. "even Madden thinks he is." He wrote that is if it was somehow a surprise that Madden would choose a take that might piss off Steelers' fans. Madden lives for that.

I`ll give Madden a pass because he died in 2021.

Oh, and Watt is the best.

I can’t tell are you being sarcastic or do you believe Madden cares about pissing off Steelers fans. I don’t think Madden cares. I think PFF definitely has a bias. I just find it puzzling that everyone believes Garrett is better in the national media. Alot of them are now placing Bosa and Parsons above him as well.
Maybe I am being biased being a Steeler fan but even looking at it objectively I still can’t figure this one out.

A lot of people judge players only by their last season. Since TJ didn't have the stats last year due to injury, some writers downplay his ability.

Can't you change Watt's rating to make him better than the others?

Madden lives for pissing off fans. He is an internet troll, but people foolishly give him access to air time and news space.

Watt is the best. Period. Micah Parsons is going to be real real good. Id rather have Parsons than Garrett.

Yeah for sure. I was referring to the ratings on the video game but I wouldn’t be surprised if Mark Madden rates Garret higher. He is all about that shock value.

Watt has outplayed Garrett his entire career and is the better player.

Garrett is hyped up by the media because of his pedigree as the #1 overall pick and the fact that he is a big personality that courts media attention.

I find it cringey when I hear analysts make excuses for Garretts relative lack of production, he is doubled, not in a great situation etc etc.

The narrative was always that TJ was a ‘try hard’ player in a favourable system but that went out the window in 2021 when Bud left and Tuitt wasn’t available and he still had a DPOY season with 22.5 sacks and made so many clutch / game winning plays when somebody needed to step up.

Garrett has never played at that level and I have watched games where he has disappeared for long stretches. The best players simply dont do that. He is good, but not on TJ’s level IMO

They play two different positions in different defensive schemes. Garrett generally faces a teams best offensive tackle week in and week out. Watt is the better overall play maker.

Can't go wrong with either player.

there positions aren’t drastically different. They basically have to contain the edge and pin their ears back and beat the man or men in front of them.

Garrett has the advantage of not having to drop into coverage so he has more chances per game to get after the QB. In addition he has the OLB to assist in outside contain. TJ has nobody to assist with outside contain.

the difference between LT and RT has changed significantly over the years. They are essentially the same now talent wise because offenses caught on to the fact defenses were putting their best rusher on the left edge. Not to mention rushing from the QB’s blind side is advantageous for alot of reasons. Gives that extra split second of him not seeing you. Gives you a better opportunity to force a fumble but yet Watt beats Garrett on forced fumbles without that advantage.

the other thing is Watt has made the other Edge Rushers better that play on the other side. You can’t say that about Garrett.

I would take Watt then Bosa over Garrett. Maybe even the guy from the Raiders as well.

“Well Clark, because of that metal plate in my head, every time Catherine revs up the microwave I pi$$ my pants and forget who I am for a half hour or so” and think that Myles Garrett is better than TJ Watt.

    Oops. My bad.

I haven't played the game in years, so I really don't pay attention to their rankings.

If you are talking about who you want on your team, I could see an argument for Parsons, especially if you consider cost, injury, and age. But Garrett? Nah.
