Here's some Buzz from minicamp, for whatever it's worth:

Washington won minicamp and had five touchdowns. How much better he got each day really stuck out.

Dan Moore is a true professional and a team player. He learned right tackle without being pushed to do it and has taken Jones under his wing, even though Jones was drafted to possibly replace him. Moore has really changed his body in the offseason, is noticeably stronger and is moving better in space and has a future here even if it's at swing tackle.

Interesting. Kaboly said Washington was one of the losers of OTA’s. Poor routes and dropped balls.

Those 5 TD’s were probably redzone drills and thats exactly where I think he can make an impact early.

Between the 20’s, as of right now, not expecting much.

If anyone looks at the video the touchdowns Washington made had no defensive coverage

It was an offense only practice play

    Football in shorts

But get as excited as you want so I’m not accused of being an ogre again

I’ll wait until he actually does something in the NFL

I thought the one I saw was defensive coverage, a fade to the back of the endzone. If they perfect that, there really is no defending it.

That is actually what they wanted from Plaxico until he took a handful of stupid pills

If new guy can do this I sincerely hope they bring back the 2 point conversion on every TD

When they had a big guy their hit ratio on this was really high

Edit it might have been after him

Help my gray cells here who was just as big and just as dumb and just as gone after him

I really don't want to lose Dan Moore considering how many Tackles we have brought in.

I think he will continue to get better as the years go on.

Might have been after. Either way we have had WR and TE's with significant height at different times and the dream was always tye end zone advantage...which never has happened...or at least not much.

He is signed through 2024. And costs literally nothing in NFL pay scales.

He could replace Chuks next season saving about 8mill if he is cut before receiving a roster bonus.

But, he needs work on penalties , footwork and speed rushers.

They didn't draft Broderick Jones to sit.

Being a swing this season I'm sure he will see some action. Can't see the whole offensive line staying healthy the whole season like last year. It would be great though.

Kaboly needs to back it up with proof. I watched Washington in Georgia at camps and games.

they are talking about the right side battle coming up in camp. maybe okrafor is dethroned. moore is the better run blocker. we shall see. chuks would save a lot of money if any of the others step up and replace him. this will get interesting to watch.

I heard some of the same criticisms of Washington on SNR, he needs to work on his route running, and be more consistent catching the ball.

You aren't expecting him to be a ferocious blocker between the 20's?

When we drafted Pickens, I said he was best receiver in draft. Same with Washington, the dude can catch.

    Same from Muth...

Steelers Rookie Turns Heads at Minicamp: ‘He Does Some Things Very Natural’

The Pittsburgh Steelers already have Pat Freiermuth making impactful plays at tight end. The Steelers also re-signed veteran Zach Gentry. Freiermuth and Gentry each played at least 49% of the team’s offensive snaps in 2022.

But the Steelers still expect big things from rookie tight end Darnell Washington. Based on how he performed at the team’s minicamp, those expectations are only rising.

“He’s great man,” Freiermuth said when talking about Washington in front of the media on June 14. “He does some things very natural to him, and he’s a good route runner, and he definitely is very physical.”

For the way they're saying, then should be easy to back it up. Because there's a ton of college tape that says they drafted a different Washington.

Exactly. Even at the combine they were seeing you can throw it ten yards away and Washington would come down with it.

    1. These people dorks be backing it up, because more retorters day different. As well as players and coaches.
    2. Combine, uga camos, and games show a totally different player.

Not worried at Washington at the moment. Regarding the reports though?!... something to monitor heading into Training Camp. Jones and Moore having their big battle for the Left Tackle spot though will greatly intrigue me as that will pay major dividends on whom can protect Kenny's Blindside.

The likes of Nick Bosa, Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby are not easy for any Left Tackle much less a Rookie should Jones start.

The biggest thing I got out of all of this is a report that showed up on my FB page he is staying in the 'burgh to work on things. I can't post a link because i am on a different comp., the kid seems to have that blue collar work ethic we love.

The media was at the OTAs, no reason for them lie about it, Washington fell to the third round for a reason because he wasn't a finished product.

He said he ran good routes but he needs to clean up his in and out breaks. Anyone watching Georgia football knows he was not getting many the passes because of TE Brock Bowers.

On NFL Draft Buzz, Washington was ranked the #2 TE after Michael Mayer.

The primary culprit appears to be medical issues. A year after fellow Georgia product Nakobe Dean went from potential first-rounder to pick No. 93 in the third round due to injury concerns, Washington was "red-flagged" by multiple teams after battling a repeat foot injury in college, according to WalterFootball.com. Sports Illustrated, NFL Media and others added fuel to the fire Friday by suggesting teams do, in fact, have questions about Washington's health -- perhaps particularly his knee.

It's possible that Washington's slide also stemmed from his lack of pass-catching production at the college level. While he boasts unteachable size, drawing Marcedes Lewis comparisons for his potential as a dominant in-line blocker, Washington was not prolific with the ball in his hands, at least statistically, registering no more than 460 receiving yards in a season. In an increasingly speedy and pass-happy league, it shouldn't be all too surprising that a bigger, less explosive receiving option tumbled down the board.
