Pretty confident statement. If we stay completely healthy and Peterson and the MLBs play decent could be an exciting group. DT looks nice with Cam then Watt and Highsmith could wreck serious havoc.

 

You should maybe throw in the quote and a link to give context otherwise it will become Highsmith guaranteed Steelers defense is the top defense instead of what it really was, that being a beat writer trying to get a final quote before the 40 day famine before training camp begins. I can't explain it, but as long as the D plays very well....I'm always a happy Man...even if the O doesn't look as good, but let's hope both are outstanding.

 

People often say a defensive struggle is boring to watch but I always enjoy them. Something about a high powered offense that can move the ball a little but the defense makes them earn every inch. It's good viewing in my book.

 

I like the optimism, I also believe barring injury we can compete with anybody.

Even a player for a crap team is going to claim they're really good. It's like when a vet is asked about a teammate, he's going to say the guy is looking really good in OTAs and training camp even if he's the worst player in camp.

Other than ILB, our defense looks pretty stacked. Injuries are the wildcard, but if Porter/Trice/Peterson can be what we think they can be at CB, we know we have a stud at safety, 2 at OLB, one of the best DT’s in the game. The only position that still worries me even without injuries is ILB.

We're gonna find out really quick how good the D is in week 1. The 49ers are the 2nd best team in the NFL behind the Chiefs. Their defense is top notch and they have some nice weapons on offense. Thank goodness this game is at Heinz Field.
