NFL Network Believes Steelers Are Super Bowl Contenders
Story by Noah Strackbein • 2h ago

Kyle Brandt believes the Steelers have a way to work with a young quarterback. A "formula" they held onto with Ben Roethlisberger, and are now working on with Pickett. And the young QB knows how to win within it.

"I think the Steelers have this formula when you have a young quarterback... Do not mess the game up for us. Do not lose the game for us," Brandt said. "Roethlisberger tried hard to lose that first Super Bowl that they won, but they won in spite of him. Pickett already gets it."

I’m drinking the kool aid for true contention in the 2024 season. For the 2023 season I’m looking for a playoff win. Anything more is ahead of schedule IMO.

To put it in perspective right now some people think Cleveland is a super bowl contender

“I could have been a contender”

I’m excited as well, but we still have issues at ilb and slot corner. Not to mention our draft picks haven’t even worn pads yet. On top of all of that outside of the defensive line the rest of the defense is basically brand new. I would be shocked if there arent some growing pains

Can’t see them getting through the better teams in the conference in January, particularly the Chiefs. It’s such a strong conference now with Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert etc

If the Steelers were playing in the NFC their chances would be much better.

I dont believe they are realistic contenders in 2023 but if Kenny progresses and they have another strong offseason next year they should have a very strong roster.

I hate early football predictions because so much of who wins late is dictated by the health of the players. Last season we played well late in part because we had our best team on the field. But when TJ was out, or if KP, or Pickens or Najeh is hurt, we are a below .500 team. This is nothing shocking but I feel as though every NFL prediction should come with the caveat, ‘depending on their health”.

There's always a chance another team can beat the Chiefs, just like in 2005 when another team beat New England.

Anything is possible. Mahomes could get injured etc.

I suppose the point I’m making is that the margin for error is very small in the AFC and the path to the Superbowl is incredibly difficult.

To get to AND win a play off game is huge for a team with this long of a drought. You have to get to the party first, anything can happen, but that first PO win is for me the real starting point.

I like what Khan and Weidl have done this year building from the inside out. I feel they are a year away from major contention. I am hoping they can get into the dance and at the least win a playoff game. Or if they lose at least not getting shelled for 40 some but showing progress.

Health is the key. Can't afford to lose any of our top shelf players.

I am optimistic and anything can happen but there are still question marks.

4 years ago I would be like yeah whatever. With Kenny and seeing what Khan has done so far, I’m pretty confident we won’t just only be a non losing season kinda team.

This year we will probably get a better understanding of how good KP is going to be. If he improves and shows signs of being a legit franchise QB we could contend by 2025.

Shoot, I thought we were Super Bowl contenders when Mark Malone and Bubby Brister were our quarterbacks in the 80s.

brand new defensive backs? levi wallace, fitz, kazee, pierre, norwood, killebrew are not brand new. TJ and highsmith are not brand new. ILB i will give you but the rest are not all brand new. you are going to have rookies every year. the rest are at least seasoned vets so it's not like they will not know the concepts we are running. the ILB'ers are also not new to the NFL. the D-line may be one of the newest groups on the team but still they are not brand new.

Jake Plummer can tell his grandkids about his games vs the GOAT....and how he beat him 3 times and went undefeated against Tom Brady. What an awesome feather in the cap! :lolol:
