Our hc was a wide receiver. In his first coaching job they made him switch to defensive backs to learn both sides

In Tomlin's one year as DC, The Vikings finished with the worst-ranked defense against the pass. Then he got the HC job in Pittsburgh for such great credentials.

He got the Pittsburgh HC job offer and took some time to think about it (?????) and meanwhile played golf with Dick Lebeau and Russ Grimm. He told Dick and Russ that he was thinking the Steelers low balled him with the contract offer (??????) because they only offered him NFL average starting salary for a first year head coach.

    Good for him

    Competitive from the start

And based on his record he was underpaid to start.

IIRC you couldn’t run on that Vikings team so they experienced a high volume of passes.

similar to chandon sullivan and peterson last year for the vikings. the vikes led many of their games and teams passed a lot against them.

Mentioning Rod Woodson and Maulet in the same paragraph should be against the rules. It looks like Maulet saw the writing on the wall and figured he could get a deal somewhere else, instead of trying to latch on somewhere after being a camp cut.

quite the opposite. teams could pass on Tomlin's vikings so nobody ran it.

The Vikings were eighth in the league in yards allowed per game in 2006, Tomlin's one season as defensive coordinator. They were closer to the middle of the pack, 14th, in points allowed. They improved in both areas from the previous season.

I'm sorry you find facts so troubling. The Vikings' defense got a lot better from the previous season the year Tomlin was their defensive coordinator.

Didn't Lake do it in reverse one season?

That was during the 1995 season when Woodson was lost for the season in week 1. Lake went on to make the Pro Bowl that season as a corner.

He played some cornerback after that, too, if I remember correctly. He was so damn good.
