My recollection is that Roche was outplayed in the preseason (and supposedly camp) by other young players. Wasn’t Tuzar Skipper a guy who made it to the 53 man roster over Roche, or am I thinking about a different season? Anyway, I hope he can turn it around and be a contributor, but I wouldn’t bank on it. We could really use a vet to be that 3rd edge guy to start the season.

he was our 6th round pick that year. we put him on the practice squad that year and he was immediately poached by the giants and added to their 53 man roster. he started 3 games that year for them with 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, 38 tackles 5 tackles for loss, 5 QB hits. year two was the change of their defense and coordinator, actually the end of year one i believe and didn't fit their change. nor did crowder. roche had 1 sack for us in preseason his rookie year

they kept jamir jones and signed roche to the PS and then the giants poached him and put him on their 53. as soon as the giants released him after the end of last season we signed him back.

Roche is just another body. Herbig is a rookie. They will bring in someone.

They had $5,553,798 of cap space before the draft.

Being tight against the cap is no surprise. They could free up a nice 4 mill getting rid of Witherspoon and extending Mitch, some restructures and signing Highsmith to a deal.

Don’t forget they have to resign Highsmith.

They don't have to, but I think they would prefer to extend him now rather than try it next season with the franchise tag being their primary leverage.

My point was that they don't have to sign him for this season. He is still under contract. Their chances of keeping him long term decline dramatically if they can't lock him up this offseason, but it is possible he wants too much and they keep him on his rookie deal this season and franchise him for 2024.

Thanks. Have no idea how he will produce, but as I said sometimes it just takes getting the experience, exposure and system. He has the talent, hope he surprises.

Aijan certainly is experienced spending 6 seasons with the Wildcats with 57 starts at safety.

I was wondering the same thing. It is very quiet, which means it could be bs clickbait. No reported sightings on the south side. They are close to the cap, aren’t they? It would have to be a team friendly contract. Probably a one year until they develop someone or draft someone next year.

I'm sitting here thinking about how well the draft went and the free agents that we have coming in. Then, I started thinking of this ... shouldn't we put the same energy and do our due diligence in creating superbowl caliber coaching staff?!

Not that he is the answer to SS but I would not be surprised to see Karl Joseph show back up around camp time on a cheap contract

    Ditto Benny Snell

Yep 3 year starter Daquari Wilson who was the Big South's all conference center. He's kind of small at 6'2" 293 lbs. but has 34" arms. The Steeler have a long history of signing players from HBCU's.

Ultimate success in sports is fleeting, many cases the coaching lineup catches lightning in a bottle. Granted, the lightning lasted a long time for the Chowder Heads but once Marsha headed south the coaching staff looked rather pedestrian. Very hard to gauge who will succeed as coach with any given team lineup. But, I hear ya.
