Which would be taking targets from Muth.

That seems unlikely. As Blast pointed out, I doubt he is taking targets from Freiermuth. In fact, I doubt Washington will be on the field on third down unless it is third-and-1. Johnson, Pickens, Robinson, Austin, Freiermuth, and Heyward are all more likely to be on the field in obvious passing situations.

If anything, he might get some targets on first or second down, play-action stuff with him as a third or fourth option.

On the plus side, I think he can do some serious damage in those situations.

I’m not bothered by who gets the target or stat as much as I want these guys keeping the defense honest, guessing, and not double teaming so that they all get some yards and keep drives matriculating (so rarely get to use that nugget) into the endzone.

Team stats are far more meaningful in the win/loss column.

Thats not what I mean although I’m sure the players care, even if they do say the right things but the point was a first year guy, especially a TE isn’t coming in and taking those targets from established guys. Muth is already Picketts safety valve, he’s comfortable with him.

Washington will be Picketts last read. Maybe there will be some plays designed where they go right to Washington or maybe just maybe they will incorporate that new radical idea of having hot routes in the offense.

I’m just saying, Washington won’t see a lot of balls coming his way, think Elvis in on the money with his prediction, about 25 receptions. Hopefully he can make his mark with TD’s though.

He could have a nice average per reception, too, if he can make similar plays to those at Georgia, burning defenses that don't pay enough attention to him. That has value, if he can force defenses to respect him as a threat.

Exactly, even just three with a couple first downs and a TD every few games to go with some pancake blocks for the runners and Kenny not getting clotheslined. I’ll take it.

They get more $$$ by playing more games deeper into the post season by operating as a completely functioning full unit too. Are they team players first or check cashers? Weed out the check cashers and load up with solid team players.

Based on that other thread with Chuck Noll, I’d love to see and hear how he’d comment on this topic. Especially in todays game and how much these players make.

I don’t know if you or anyone else here listens to the Steelers Depot “Terrible Podcast” but at about the 45 minute mark they have a good discussion for about 25 minutes discussing all of Washington’s targets with stats and data for a decent deep dive on passes and receptions only, not even his blocking plays. More on those later.

According to Dave Bryan only 2 drops all season.

They seem pretty excited about him on this team. Enjoy…!!!

Well, they aren’t just talking him up, they are contextualizing his targets. But you knew that.

And this pair of guys have a decent record and reputation of calling draft pics as they see them and being critical too.

Only 2 drops all season...we'll have to call him Darnell "Butterfingers' Washington. Kidding aside, when Georgia beat Alabama, Kirby Smart was concerned was leaving Georgia through the transfer portal due to lack of receiving opportunities. He was also concerned about losing Broderick Jones.

Article also had this on Washington and Pickens. It's amazing that we got Pickens, Jones and Washington.

Washington and Pickens, both future NFL players, didn’t necessarily get the same sort of separation from defenders as players like Bowers, but they have glue-like hands to reel in throws put into tighter windows.

Smart, himself, seemed to indicate as much as the start of is postgame speech following the Bulldogs’ 33-18 win over Alabama in the CFP Championship Game.

“I want y’all to take one second, OK, one second and a deep breath, I want you to remember this picture for the rest of your life,” Smart said in the clip, captured by UGA videographers. “Because I don’t care what you do, where you go, Darnell, how much you play, Broderick, they can’t take this away from us.”

"I" to them is income, and for skill players, that means stats
