Yes, I would have taken him at 49 over Benton, I think he’s still a better prospect despite his actual selection. And I think we need his value on offense for the projected QB protection, run blocking, and pass mismatch offensive value this team needs to move the needle more than possible DT depth. And I am realllly coming around more and more on Benton the more I look at him. Nick Herbig seems like defensive Connor Hayward; great football player but don’t yet see if gives us a great strength more than a 3rd string depth so that there isn’t an absolute hole.

LoL. You Guys still arguing. LoL.
I'm bored so I'm getting involved. LoL.
Actually We won't know who is right , or wrong for a few years.
Every pick could suck, or they all could be good.
If they all are good ...then they were all picked in the perfect place....because We couldn't have gotten all of them another way. If they all suck it doesn't matter.
If Washington sucks , and everyone above Him is great....then Washington was picked in the correct spot. If Washington is great, and everyone picked before Him sucks....then We were lucky to get Washington at that pick. Hope I stirred the pot correctly. LoL :lolol:

I suppose you could say they were lucky some dumb ass GM didn’t reach for a completely unremarkable QB that likely goes undrafted if not for the Pats. But otherwise, yes, they were completely correct in waiting.

    Lol… Ok.

I’ve seen the image. But I also saw football life show and he had a very respectable college career. His chip about the snubs was justified. Then if consistency is reasonable the Steelers were also correct to draft Tee Martin QB in the 5th round that year.

There was nothing about his game that warranted a higher grade than what he had. He’s just a psycho, thats what made him so great, has a drive that most athletes don’t have except for the great ones.

Have no idea what Tee Martin has to do with anything. He wasn’t a good player, clearly they were wrong to draft him but would have been even more wrong had they reached for him.

Just psychosis and drive? Interesting. I’ll ignore the other prognosticators I’ve ever heard then. Too bad all the other all time gold jacket greats in NFL history didn’t have that magical formula. Thanks for that.

Hindsight tells us that the Patriots didn't have to take Brady earlier. It tells us that the Steelers didn't have to take Stallworth or Brown earlier, either. If you tell a GM that is is a rock-solid guarantee that nobody will take a player until the sixth round and that GM takes the guy in the second, he should be fired immediately for incompetence because he wasted draft capital.

This is all assuming we have the benefit of hindsight.

Applying that to the current situation, the Steelers were absolutely right to wait until pick No. 93 to take Washington because they got him. How he turns out a player is irrelevant to the discussion.

I like this a LOT better than two surly guys trying play “gotcha” by writing novels back and forth on a message board.

I still don’t see the same lumbering player or nominal receiver. Looks great to me.

Wish we took him in the FIRST!!!

Hopefully the coaches figures out he's a heck of a receiver

    from the article...

Washington had just 45 catches in his college career, including 28 for 454 yards and two touchdowns last season. But paired with Brock Bowers — who is widely regarded as the country’s best receiving tight end — Washington wasn’t asked to run routes as often as other top tight ends. But no tight end in the country who was targeted as many times as Washington was in 2022 had a better average yards per catch (16.2).
