The only thing you can judge this draft on is possibilities. But after enduring drafts where we picked 1st round duds I'm going to allow myself to be excited about this draft. It seems to me that the guys we drafted fit what we needed and at least have the pedigree in college to be big time contributors. So while I wait to see how they play on the field I'm at least going to enjoy how this draft has played out so far. I think it indicates a new analysis of players from the front office and the willingness to move around in the draft to accomplish those goals. No one is going to rain on my parade at this point.

Banned is a strong word. I would flip my lid if a punter was taken in the 1st round. Then looking back 14 years, 3 SBs, and the unbelievable advantages in field positions he brought, that 70% of all the other 1st rounders taken in that time never produced the potential, or were out right busts and give it a pass. Now admittedly that's a once in a lifetime athlete, but you cannot argue the results.

A quote from Ray Guy's HOF induction speech.

“I was a good athlete and could have been a Major League pitcher or an NBA basketball player, but I knew God had something special for me.” “And eventually one sport would stand out beyond the rest, and it did. Playing in the NFL with the Raiders was my destiny, and I never looked back or questioned my decision.” – He said in his Hall of Fame induction speech in 2014

We could also take a nickel like Phillips from Utah

I was thinking the same thing. They brought Weidl in for a reason, and it appears (on paper so far) that he has influence. To make those moves though..and not make a move (keeping the 32 pick), I think really comes down to Omar. Money can help, but ultimately for most guys in this position the opportunity to become a GM would be to much to turn down. Would not surprise me if the new Washington owners come calling when they are approved.

Hope we can find a gem or two in UDA. You cannot realistically build a team in one draft, but with all the holes they had, on paper this is a much improved team from last year. Depth alone a certain positions has improved vastly.

I'm not going to research it, but has any team ever had 4 of their first 5 picks in one draft go to the HOF, let alone another UDA from the same year. There might be team(s) 2 from the same draft class, but that's 22% of your starting roster. Unreal.

I agree, the last two preseasons you could see that the Steelers had no depth, especially at the line of scrimmage.

We were wondering which Steeler would get the newly allowed zero number, and then along comes Darnell Washington at just the right time!

there was one comment on OL talent easy to find. Has he seen out OL the last couple of years, lol. Admittedly it was better as the team progressed last year, they addressed the L side this year..so we will see, but easy to find is not how I would phrase it.

I don't care how it was done, if NE gave us a sweet deal to screw the Jets..if so thank you, but Omar showed some grit last few days. Move when you can, stay when you are possibly offered a good deal (but not the deal you desire), moving again and getting back into todays action with a very credible pick with the trade down.

    That's who I want.
I'm also really intrigued by Nick Hampton. Edge rusher from App St.

    Here's a little on him.

That’s now a premature statement Mr. Willis.

Now we gotta wait to see his play on the field and if it could match pick 32 levels. Often times that can take 2-3 years, but I think it reveals sooner.

I wouldn’t mind if they took Max Duggan if he was sitting there in round 7. I think he’d make a nice backup for KP.

In no particular order I wouldn’t mind seeing any of these guys selected by the Steelers today.
    Brooks DT
    Phillips III CB
    Rush cb
    Johnson jr S
    Oromo DT
    Bennet Qb

Here’s a wild conspiracy, did some mystery Steelers person fan the knee injury flames?

As critical as I’ve been of Ringo in the early rounds, I think he’s a guy you have to really consider if he makes it to 132. His raw physical talent is super high, and getting him in the 4th after getting a starting corner earlier takes away the pressure to get him in the lineup before he’s ready. If he had been playing vs. subpar talent for his career, I’d be nervous, but he has been playing SEC competition and hasn’t sucked at everything, just at man coverage on WRs.

maybe. Gentry is a nice TE. With not having resigned D Watt, there is a spot to keep all of them.

You can’t still be arguing they should have taken him at 32 are you?

They did it exactly right. Doesn’t matter how good he plays now they showed they didn’t need to spend an early pick on him, like I said all along.

I was never against the player as much as I was against taking a TE, especially early.

Outstanding draft. Weidl was a terrific hire and has added 5 (counting the TE) very good players to the line of scrimmage. Add in Porter and the other acquisitions and we look really good right now. Thanks for everything, Kevin, but the new blood was desperately needed.

Grab a LB or S in the 4th, a QB in the 7th, and let's roll!

With Duggan, I would dress three QBs and use him in the 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 situations, with Washington pushing Duggan forward.
