What if Jalen Carter is there still at 9? Do you pull the trigger on him or cb/Ot.

While I like him. They paid the jedi. I can't see that being the case of them taking him

Take the OT, the draft is very deep at CB they can get one in the second or third round.

I’ve been saying for weeks that DJ could be and probably should be traded before we lose him for nothing in return. I doubt he’s getting a 3rd contract from the Steelers.

What if they move up to 9 and then trade back again to pick 13-14 and get some mid round capital? Still get one of a few guys they like there and gain another pick in a good area?

The DJ / Steelers marriage doesn’t feel destined for longevity guys. I know the room will be thin and crazy young without him, but are the Steelers really losing much? Is he a long term fit…?

Cut the losses and transition to gains. Rebuild the future, fabric and outlook of this team with the new regime.

I’d be more excited watching this team grow than kicking a similar can. Sorry for the unpopular opinion, but I’m bout it…

i do not think I have ever heard a team trading up, just to trade back for more picks.

agreed I see it being for LT. then taking CB with the 32 overall. or if there is a lot of CB to get, then I could see them trading that back with more picks. because we know a ton of team will be calling right after the first round to get the #32 pick.

so if we get the #9 then it will be LT. then #32 (unless traded back), will be for a CB. #49 I could see being a WR. 3rd will be Safety.

Well if that's the case then I'm trading all the way up to Number 1 overall for this.

Probably right. Unless there are rules against that move.

Gonna have to trade up to get Broderick. I think that's who they want. Doing that would go worlds to gaining Picket's trust and motivation to succeed since they would be protecting his blindside/prioritizing him.

Well the Stains traded up in the first round to take Johnny Manziel who should have actually been undrafted. Shouldn't that count for something?

I can see us trading up for Paris Johnson. A long, athletic LT who is just scratching the surface of what he can be. We can say much of the same for Broderick Jones, but I think he’s a bit less day 1 ready than Johnson. I also don’t think we need to get to the top 10 for Jones.

It’s not a sexy pick, but it gets Kenny a blind side protector that he can be confident in.

I'm just thinking why would chicago not want to just trade back on there own for those picks. (If we were to trade up and then back).

I wouldn't read too much into this report. I'd guess every team is talking to the other 31 teams about potential trades. It's just doing due diligence.

Seems weird to trade a good player to move up 8 spots, only to trade back again for mid round picks that would be a long shot to be anywhere near as good as DJ. Trading DJ is not ideal IMO anyways. You feel good going into next season with Pickens, a rookie, Austin III coming off a lost rookie season, and Gunner Olszewski? That's not a good way to support your QB of the future. Just because a player's contract is running out doesn't mean we have to swap him for picks. Its hard to have that type of luxury

I highly doubt DJ is what we'd be using to trade up. Theoretically pick 49 and 17 would work on the value calculator but who knows if that's enough.

To me its just finding out what it would take. I'm thinking it means there is potentially a player they like that they don't anticipate having a shot at. So if the opportunity presented itself for them to make a play with the capital they are comfortable moving... they can make a move and get that guy.

I think 32 is the only pick I'd be super into trading back from. It has a small chance that teams would be willing to overpay to get "their guy" at the top of the round and in that case I could stomach the move. I think we should either stay put at 17 or move up.

IMO the philosophy is simple. If we plan on being a bottom feeder and one of the 5-7 worst teams in the league next year, then we should trade back and get as many picks as possible to try to build a pipeline of good players. If we are thinking we are close to getting over the top and want to try to contend for a playoff spot next season we should stay put, or even trade up if we feel like that particular player will be special.

DJ is the only route runner on the team right now. Pickens is still raw and is going to be a match-up nightmare, but I don't think he fits with what they do with Johnson yet. Wide receiver room is one injury away from having some crappy back-up (special teamers) out on the field.

This is a weak report, doubt it has much teeth to it.

Chicago also needs a lineman so why trade back, The article states they can still get a good one at 17 so why then should the Steelers trade up. If the Steelers move it will be to move back.

Trading DJ is not happening, it’s comical to think they will leave themselves that thin. Even if they draft someone, that leaves them Pickens and Austin who hasn’t played a snap yet and a rookie. DJ will be a Steeler this season.

I would also entertain the idea as well. That said, there is little to no traction out of such a thing happening. Granted, I respect Brett Kollmann and his Podcast a lot more than most but the lack of an official source makes this of two categories; classic case of a rumor being something... or nothing.

Now hypothetically, let us state that Chicago would elect to trade with the Steelers. Paris Johnson and Broderick Jones are the top two contestants. I like Jones more than Johnson a bit more but the talent gap between the two is thin. There is also the possibility that the Steelers want to nab Christian Gonzalez from Oregon though I doubt he will be available at 9 now that Detriot just traded Jeff Okudah in addition to Oakland needing secondary help themselves.

A team with as many needs as the Steelers should be trading back, not up. JMO

Regarding DJ he is still under contract for two more seasons. I think the team likes him a lot more than the fans do and I can’t see them trading him away after dealing Claypool already. As others have pointed out they are absolutely razor thin at WR if he is gone. Pickens made some exciting catches in his rookie year but he is by no means proven. Remember the hype about Chase after a decent rookie campaign!

The Bears had a rookie start at LT last season and play well enough that they may roll with him again this season. You can get a top tier lineman at every O line position but LT at #17. I hope we don’t trade up that far for anyone but Paris Johnson, who will/should be a Day 1 starting LT.

I certainly agree that DJ is going nowhere this offseason.
