These fans don't know how the Steelers have these CBs ranked in the draft, most of them just make stuff up .

The way you post here MT must be a close personal friend, maybe even relative. Perhaps you can share some insight on who they take and why?

I won't hate the Porter Jr pick if it's made, but If Cam Smith, and Gonzalez are on the board still....We will know why He was picked.
Now familiarity maybe means more to them then Who is actually better right now, and Hell maybe it should. I mean what a player is right now coming out is never a finished product....So if they think Porter Jr is the Guy that will always be working to get better because they know Him that way.....who am I to say nay....

Every ranking and mock draft I've seen has Porter ahead of Smith, so no, the Steelers taking Porter over Smith would not be evidence of that at all.

I think it is a lot more likely that Porter will make it to 17 than Gonzalez. I can't imagine both of them being there.

Here is a small sample of draft rankings with Porter ahead of Cam Smith. I still haven't found one that has Smith higher. I have found a few with him outside the top 30.

If I was to believe my quick 5 minute Google search, Gonzalez and Witherspoon are the dudes to hope for but Porter Jr doesn't seem to be a bad consolation prize.

    what would you rather have:

an interception or a pass break up

    ummm... thinking... still thinking...

Gonzales if available but thats it for first round,

Witherspoon, Banks, would be ok in the second but probably be gone by then

JPJ second/ late second but not earlier (another team can draft him, if we like his character and all that we can pursue down the road especially if he proves himself in the NFL, but I wouldn't draft him early this year

a pass interception. But I'd settle for a pass breakup. I think Ike Taylor was a pretty good corner but he had bad hands. So I'll take either one other than what we've had lately

Minkah Fitzpatrick was one of four players who tied for the NFL lead in interceptions with six this past season. That is six plays out of the entire season. Anybody with even the most basic understanding of football realizes that you don't evaluate cornerbacks by interceptions. See the example of Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Witherspoon and Porter are among the top 20 players in this draft, but you think they are second-rounders. Wow. Just wow.

Just because you have Smith ranked that high doesn't mean teams feel the same way about him, I don't think the Steelers even had him in for a visit.

My insight is they will take the best available CB left on the board, I'm not buying that nonsense Porter Jr. is a lock to the Steelers just because his dad played for them.

He isn't, at least not for that reason. Sure, it helps that they know him better than other teams do, but this idea that the Steelers would draft out of sentiment rather than trying to add the best player is just ridiculous.

I don't think they are second rounders, I just wouldn't take them in the first round, this is a board where people are free to express their opinions. Also your critique of my posts are a little too black and white. I don't evaluate corners on interceptions. But interceptions are what you want. They don't come easy and often but the instinct has to be there, especially w scouting and evaluating. I don't pretend to be some grand authority on the game of football, but I have ideas and opinions rooted in life experience. Thanks, have a nice day

Why isn’t Emanuel Forbes your top corner? Gonzalez had 4 career interceptions. Forbes had 14, including 6 that he returned for TDs in the same number of seasons as a starter.

Forbes is too slight in frame, again, it's not just about interceptions, obviously, for the last time

I have experience, too. This goes back to a lesson I learned watching the Steelers in 1984. People got all excited about cornerback Sam Washington's six interceptions, but the guy couldn't cover. He was abused far too often, especially in the AFC Championship loss to the Dolphins. You are vastly overrating the importance of interceptions in the evaluation of a cornerback. That you have no response for my example of Revis shows how poorly conceived your approach is here.

That said, thank you. You have a nice day, too.

I already said I agreed with that. What do You want???

Doesn't mean it was wrong .
Hell I mean teams take players all the time ....I think are wrong spots.
Remember when I laughed about Mayfield for example, and said He should be a Late 1st at the best second round pick, but the Browns thought different. I'm not saying the Steelers want Him...., or that other CBs aren't good. I'm saying right now , by the competition they faced(Qb/wrs), and how they did it......Gonzalez, and Cam Smith should be the top 2 CBs. Doesn't mean the others won't get to be better.

William Gay returned five interceptions for touchdowns in his NFL career, including three in one season. Darrelle Revis returned three for touchdowns. By your logic, Gay was better than Revis. Of course, the reality is that Gay was a fringe starter and Revis was a Hall of Famer.

Yes, Revis could be dynamic with the ball in his hands. Hell, the guy scored five touchdowns in a PIAA playoff game when he was at Aliquippa, where he was a starting quarterback as well as a defensive back, but that wasn't what made him a great pro.

Eight interceptions in three years is less than three interceptions per season at Pitt. That is two or three plays out of an entire season. Those plays are not what made Revis a first-round draft pick, just as the relatively low interception total in the NFL isn't what got him into the Hall of Fame. How are you not getting this?

Why aren't you working for an NFL team? You have all this expertise and no has reached out to hire you yet? This is a public forum.. some team definitely could have rummaged through these board and saw all these great predictions and analysis by you so why hasn't anyone given you the call?

If it is close in comparison though, they will go with who they know...Terrell Edmunds pick is evidence of that.

If Gonzalez is still on the board and someone needs a CB, then they are not watching very closely. Not saying he is Sauce Gardner, but with his speed and athlete ability, production from a DB standout program he should definitely be one of the first taken.
