Okay Mr. Literal, let me see if I can get those numbers down to the penny for you if that’ll make you happy.

Boy, you really are a smarta** and that’s not hyperbole.

As I pointed out the Cost saving is roughly $7 million.

You save $8 million by releasing Mitch and Mason's special "Four year Vet Contract pays him $2.5 million but only costs the team $1 million against the cap. 8-1 is a cost savings of 7 million.

Mason signed last years $5 million to compete for the starting job here in Pittsburgh. If he can't find anything better than the standard 1 year vet minimum contract of $1 million, why not stay in Pittsburgh and make $2.5 million? Also, beats the $8,000 a week paycheck sitting on someone's practice squad during the season.

I’m sure all 2nd string QB’s aren’t great at this part of the job or on great terms with the QB1 or whatever. Teams should have a designated person from the coaching staff (if they don’t already) that doesn’t cost against the cap.

I want our QB2 to be the 2nd best player at the position and I don’t care about how well he communicates up, but of course I’d prefer it’s is a peachy.

That is a dubious assumption at best. I don’t think he would accept such an offer. Also, if that is all he can get, that should tell you how little the entire league thinks of Rudolph.

They probably think about Mason the same way every team thought of Edmonds. Rudolph will eat his pride and take that 2 million.

We definitely want the QB2 to be the guy to come in and win games that’s the first priority but he should also be able to do the second function

If he can’t handle the sideline function as well he’s probably not going to be a guy who can come in at a moments notice and play well

Oh so everyone else can argue about the backup Qb, but let Me do it , and Shame....Shame ....Shame....the hypocrisy of it all.
Also If some would go back ,and watch the game on tv....it was Mason sitting down at some games with the coach, and KFP.....while Trubisky was off pouting. Don't believe Me go look.

This is what makes me laugh about the Trubisky vs Rudolph debate. I do not like Mitch as a player but it is clear the Rudolph is Landry Jones 2.0. If he was not on the Steelers he would not be in the NFL. We cut Landry and he went to the XFL. Even Josh Dobbs has stuck around. Mitch is clearly held in much higher regard around the league. Neither of these guys are long-term starters but scouts consider Mason's talent marginal at best.

It appears You have never watched Jones , or Mason play. This is not saying their careers will not be the same, but as players....they are not the same, or close. I never even understood the taking of Landry Jones.

They were vey similar coming out of college.
Same conference. Similar offenses. Similar athleticism. Similar production. Landry played at the more prestigious school in the same state. Similar draft experience (1 round apart and went to the same team). Same role on the Steelers (end of year rest game/emergency starter). Neither of them is the guy you want starting a whole year for you in the NFL.

I doubt that Mason’s value this year is $5 million. Nowhere near that. When he signed they deal last offseason, he was our insurance against not being able to get a free agent to start in 2022.

Mason right now is trying to find a job as a #3 so his value is $1-2
My $5 was in response to a post he should be our #2 and we should get rid of Mitch and the average #2 last year was $6.5

He's made more money than most working folks make in a lifetime. Good for him. But there's no reason to feel bad for him. He should do quite well in life
