I get it, and when Ron went down with injury Carnell Lake switched from S to CB and had a very good year. I was just thinking its the exception instead of always being the thing that older CB's do. It just seems like it is quoted very often, for many players to make that switch and its not always going to be successful.

I think Mitch should be worried about Mason's future, as it could be the Landry Jones last minute cut down thing for Mitch if Mason is back on the roster.

I am assuming the Steelers would offer Mason the same deal they offered Edmunds, that whole "Four-Year Player Qualifying Contract" of $2.5 million where only $1 million counts against the cap thing. Cap savings of $7 million if Mason would bump Mitch out of the backup job.

    No Brice

They already said they expect Mitch on the team next year

It’s pretty obvious their opinion of Mason

Thus another hole I would need to dig

A man maybe a mile from me was abusing a dog about ten years ago

The dog has been in my avatar from time to time

The man was left alive but strangely enough he never called the police on me or tried to come to my place to get the dog back

    Just saying

Yes...I know the feeling. I can't tell You how many animals I take Care of for some of the same reasons. A person should not be allowed to get a animal if they can't be responsible for them. Should be a law, but some are just as bad with their children....so what do I expect???

I'm not saying that there isn't a great working relationship with the GM and the coach. There should be. I would think that most NFL teams that aren't complete chaos (Browns, Skins) have a good team approach to the roster between the GM and the coach.

I think this season is different because of the type of players they are signing. It looks to me like they have a plan on how they want to build the depth of this team. There is defiantly a more modern and different thought process on how I think they are evaluating FA talent. The draft will be telling.

Correct, and it was very public that Parcells had GM powers.

I've said many times, Tomlin is part of the decision tree, not the sole decision maker. Every time they had a bad pick or a bad singing over the years the casual yinzer blamed Tomlin for 100% of the decision and that "Tomlin had more power than Colbert and Rooney" (Paraphrasing) which is Absolutly laughable.

    Agreed mostly

I think the phrase low level signing and bargain basement signings is a little rough

They don’t over pay in FA for splash players this time of year but they do try to find quality depth at “fair market value” and then they try to build through the draft

Then maybe they find a fill in the blank late model FA camp cut

    Rinse repeat

This theory is excellent if you don’t miss on players in the draft like Bush and Edmunds

If those two picks had been two hits we are having entirely different conversations

In a way, I’d rather have Mason backing up Kenny than Mitch. I think Mitch’s mobility makes him a better option but if Mason would be a cheaper option the Steelers should consider it.

Your #2 should also serve another more valuable function other than just maybe coming in of the bench

He’s on the sideline watching the replays reading the defenses and providing sideline feedback to the starting QB this is infinitely valuable

For Ben this valuable asset was Dobbs

    For Kenny this was Mitch

Mason is useless in this regard

What makes Mitch so much smarter than Mason?

Mitch’s contribution on the sidelines or otherwise is not $10 million more valuable than Mason’s. If we can get Rudolph on a bargain basement contract I’d send Trubisky packing in a heartbeat.

Ok without being a total smart ass where the hell did you get “$10 million more valuable”

Keeping Mitch will coast $8 million as opposed to cutting him

Mason made $5 million last year and to bring him back as #2 would cost the same if not more

The difference is $3 million (see math can be your friend ok that was smart ass :smiley1:)

Now if you want to debate is Mitch $3 million more valuable than Mason I will say yes but I’m open to conversation over a beer

Hyperbole. See, language arts can be your friend too. My point is that if you can get Mason on the cheap that’s much better value than overpaying for Mitch.
