Before the draft I mentioned OLB may be a bigger need than ILB. With Harrison getting older and still "recovering" from his back surgery and Worlid injuryed... again... I'm wondering what OLB we can watch out for this year.

Safety and OLB may be our biggest needs next year...so far.

I think the questions that remain about the upcoming season come from one question....which young kids are gonna step up and play a huge role in the future. Here are our options for youth doing just that.

    RB: Redman, Dwyer, Batch, Rainey
    WR: Wallace, Brown, Sanders
    OL: Adams, DeCastro, Gilbert
    DL: Heyward, Hood, Ta'amu
    LB: Worilds, Carter, Spence, Sylvester
    CB: Brown, Allen, Lewis

That is a lot of youth who look poised to be very good players. That being said, it also exposes some potential holes beyond they just not performing at we hope they will. Any of these guys above my not make the grade.

    1. We don't really have a developmental QB.

    2. I don't like out youth at TE. I like what I saw on tape of David Paulson, but who knows if that translates.

    3. Safety...we really have ZERO youth at this spot. ZERO! Mundy isn't old, but he should never be a starter IMO.

I still lean toward taking some youth at S at the moment, maybe FS and SS, but that will depend upon what holes we filled in the draft the last few years.

DraftCountdown has us taking Corey Lemonier, OLB/DE, Auburn (Jr) in their first mock of the year. 6'4" 246# estimated 4.7 40. We will take defense with our first pick so whever we take I hope they have some athleticism. This guys seems promising, but I think I'd be happy with Worilds/Carter if there's a serious upgrade to our backup safety spot sitting on the board for us to take.

Not only do I want to trade to Rolando McClain....I would draft 3 LB's Woodley, Foote, Timmons, Johnson, Harrison are a solid core, but Carter, Worilds, Sly all need to go.........Spence is a huge question mark given his serious injury and rookie status. Sly has been measured and found lacking. Foote while having a solid year so far is in the twilight of his playing days (McClain would take his spot in my scenario) James Harrison might never play again.....given his knee just won't heal and his super high salary in 2013

    Jelani Jenkins, LB FLORIDA
Zaviar Gooden, LB MISSOURI - Both these guys are sideline to sideline speed guys ...could play inside or out...and could be Harrison like with time in the gym
Travis Long, OLB WASHINGTON - Woodley like in size and speed off the edge.

I could take them with 3 straight picks and not lose any sleep over it.

    Woodley, Timmons, McClain, Harrison
    Long, Spence, Johnson, Jenkins, Gooden

That is a really young and fast group (Spence(23), Jenkins(21), Gooden(21) with Timmons(27), Woodley(28), McClain(24) Brandon Johnson(30) as the athletic vets... and some beef in Long (22) to go with Woodley.

    OUT ........... IN
    Foote ..... McClain
    Worilds ..... Long
    Sly ..........Jenkins
    Carter.......Gooden

i read he is the strongest guy on mizzou's team. he shouldn't need that much time. i love the kid and spoke about him in several other threads here in the draft section. he's got a dinged up ankle right now, actually the last couple of games. his speed isn't shining through right now. he's still got a little hitch in his giddyup. i'd take him in a minute though. there are a few out there this year hack. bama,NC,penn st. has a couple good LB'ers.

i'd like to see ogletree from georgia come out. he's a junior. great pass coverage skills. olb/ilb. i think his best spot would be inside here. covers like a safety, which is where he started in college. strong safety. he's lb size. 6-2 238. georgia gots some good players on defense this year.

I'm telling you...McClain is ripe for the taking...there is 3 threads...and one has 4 pages that all have things like this on it over on the Raiders board

They are screaming that they hope he goes to prison...and wondering what that means for his dead cap space.

If the Steelers were to trade for him before their next game...he would cost them $788,125 for the rest of this season......then they would have the rights to him for $4.005 million in 2013, $5.805 million in 2014, $2.665 million in 2015

Larry Foote is making 3 mill this year...and is a FA next

The Raiders would save about 13 mill overall on him.....he only costs $585,000 more to move him..than keep him next year....

He is under performing... Raiders want to free up the long term cap space...and not deal with his off the field problems......

McClain would excel back in the 3-4 IMO...and under the Steelers coaching....Guy was the man in Alabama...and I think he can be again.

He could be had for very little right now IMO....

Guy has 24 tackles on the year...9 against us....He was at 16 before todays game....and that would have put him at #2 on the Steelers behind Footes 23.

Nothing but upside to this move...he doesn't work...you cut him and owe him nothing but what is most likely a late round draft pick.

Without a doubt I would do that...even if it means we are a little light at OLB for the rest of the year....

I would ship them Sly first...but if they want Worilds...they can have him.

i agree freak. i don't think JH goes anywhere. besides we are on the hook for alot of his contract still. he does make the rest of them better, and i loved how DLB moved him around. timmons could attack and did for the first time this season. worilds was quite active too. i think we hang onto worilds, carter and robinson,to go along with JH and woodley another year or so.

I just didn't see the Worilds good game....he didn't screw up....but I didn't see him excel either...he did get a sack....where he went unblocked due to scheme...he beat no one...and ran untouched straight to the QB......He made the play...so I will not complain...and give credit where credit is due....but anytime he was asked to do it one on one...I didn't see it.

Carter had 3 games and all preseason...and showed he is nothing more than a backup at this time......Robinson is an unknown...bring him back to camp...but he won't see a snap this year on D.

I would trade McClain for Worilds all day long.

I like him...He does play some DE, but from when I watched he was almost 100% LB for the Ducks....Im a little concerned about his play at the NFL level....he is fast and athletic in space...but I wonder how much his tall lanky frame will work against him at the NFL level.

not sure hack, maybe some more batted balls at the line, that seems like a trend starting against these 3 step drop qb's. his burst of speed really impresses me though. giddyup. i miss those taller OLB that used to be the norm around here and it didn't seem to bother them. for years we had 6-5 OLB's here. put some muscle on him and he could become the mad stork(ted hendricks) type player. i'd take that. speed on D is a nice thing to have. interesting prospect though.

yes he does. LOL he's got those long lean muscles though. do you remember the DE that the oilers hadback in the day? sean something. he had that longer leaner build and was quite strong. that closing burst though is what gets me excited. i had to laugh to myself when i read they call him the praying mantis, because he really does resemble that.

I think teams are going to battle head over heels for him, hoping that he's the 2013 Aldon Smith.
