i'd love to get him cheap, insurance. then we don't need an OLB in this draft. God knows we have plenty of other needs

Teams get a little 'snake bit' when it comes to players that under perform their contract.
But then again, they swarm like a school of spring Blues at a moments notice.

He was an $82 million dollar LB who was supposed to provide pressure on the QB: 7 sacks in 2-years is not much pressure.

But at 6'4" and 260+ I would not mind signing him into this LB rotation.
At a Package Player price, and keeping him as well as whose in front of him fresh, and not depending on him as an every down guy, it's a good proposition.

    Really need ILB though.

Reality has to set in for them that no one is going to pay what they are looking for. Then they will start listening to more realistic offers.

I believe Jamir Jones is the only other OLB on the roster and we saw what happened when Watt went down last year. Whether or not Dupree is the answer, it is a position of need considering we may lose Highsmith next year

The Price of players like him and Terrell Edmunds may go up after the draft as Teams scramble to fill holes they were hoping to fill in the draft.

I have also not heard anything from the Mason Rudolph camp either.

Agreed. It is still March. Edmunds didn't sign until six days before the draft last year.

I'd rather extend Highsmith and grab the depth in the draft.

Dupree isn't going to get enough money to affect whether or not they extend Highsmith. If he holds out for that much, he isn't an option for the Steelers.

I think Highsmith gets ink'd big before the season starts. We don't have the luxury of starting over there.....and......Watt is not getting any younger, unfortunately. Heyward will be off the books soon, sad (VERY SAD) to say.....

    True on the draft

And sometimes a bump can happen if someone gets hurt in camp

But the longer a FA waits the greater their chance of being unemployed

Right now it would be in the best interest of every FA still left to wait until after the draft

    It’s simple supply snd demand

Every day after the draft the value goes down

he doesn't need to take a low ball offer. the guy has made enough money to live comfortably. even not signed before the year starts, it only takes one injury on a team for his worth to increase.

I hope your right, Highsmith is becoming my favorite defensive player now. I think his ceiling may be as high as Watt's or higher. Plus, Watt is starting to get dinged up.

I would say "Yeah, probably, but not your fault."
Your depth is Egbule and Jones on the outside.
But "At a Package Player price, and keeping him as well as whose in front of him fresh, and not depending on him as an every down guy, it's a good proposition.
    Really need ILB though."
    - what I didn't say was depth. This is what I suspect your eluding to.

No doubt I like Holcomb, I've been around him for some time.
    I also like Roberts.
And I am also curious about Robinson.
I guess the balancing act is inside or outside depth?
On the inside: Holcomb and Roberts are liabilities in pass coverage. They are not horrible by any means and can make up for it.
I'd like to draft a ILB - It is my bad for sounding like there's more emphasis on it.
On the Outside: I guess it is really were you get the bigger bang in the draft (ILB or OLB) or a Dupree.

So yeah, hindsight is 20:20. However they can upgrade depth is fine by me.

He is set up for life after all the money he has already made and doesn’t need to sign anywhere in a hurry. He can pick the right team and situation when the time comes, be it after the draft or if somebody loses a starter in training camp etc.

Can’t see him getting a big multi year deal again and he may have to bounce around as long as he still wants to play. He could probably retire quite comfortably any time he wants

Its all about timing and the longer they wait the amount of money teams have gets more limited. Draft amounts are pretty standard, so fo the draft its who a team gets and then looking to fill the holes and depth. For the right guy money can be shifted, but for most of these guys it will be a 1-2 year lower than what they were asking contract.

You wonder why Alvin hasn't signed with anyone?

He is a shell and really sans a few seasons with Watt on the other side was anything. Add in his constant injuries and their you go.

Justin Houston had 9.5 sacks last season as a part time player. More then the overpaid Alvin had in the 2 seasons with the Titans.

Nobody knows how much money he's asking for, no team is going to give him big money anyway.

There are better, cheaper, higher ceiling options in the draft.

Bud's best numbers were on a stacked Steelers defense

They have more needs than draft picks. That's why he would make sense, but only if he is stuck settling for a cheap, one-year deal.
