Gotta be MLB or CB if we don’t go LT. I’m not saying we don’t need DL help but those other 3 spots are by far the weakest.

    ..... Well!!!.....

Weidl did state he loved building in the trenches! Mind you we have only seen the Offensive Line. I would suspect that the Defensive Line is next; likely through the draft. Mazi Smith is definitely someone I would not mind the Steelers taking... at all. I believe there is more potential to him than others are giving him credit for.

    :hmm:

This article here can dispell some of those concerns. :) Gives a lot more insight into what Weidl looks for. It only so happens that the players being nabbed from the Eagles match up with what Weidl expects from his big boys up front. Mind you, what Weidl is building is not much different than the Cowher led Steelers teams were at their peak either; Smash-Mouth Football.

I would almost bet this is Cam H last year. Would not be surprised if DL gets a good look in the first if the guy they like is there

But they just signed Ogunjobi and Cam can still play another 2 years maybe. They have some young unproven guys we have drafted recently like Leal and Loudermilk as well gotta hope one of those two can play. I’m not saying it’s not a need but the other 3 are Glaring!

With all of these free agent pieces falling in to place, I would not be surprised at all to here this on draft day:

With the 17th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select... Jordan Addison, wide receiver USC

After all, Andy Weidl's Eagles did go WR in the first round in 2020 & 2021, so it is a possibility.

They seem to have taken care of Kenny Pickett with the OL free agency moves, now will they get him his man on draft day?

You aren't the only one, though this article is mostly speculation.

    https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/2...eelers-2023-nfl-draft-mazi-smith-mike-tomlin/

Smith seems like a reach at 17. Maybe they can trade down and take him if the top tackles and the corners they like are gone. I'm not a fan of him or Breese at 17, though I would like Smith at 32.

Maybe I've just looked at too many mock drafts. I don't think I've seen one with Mazi Smith in the first round. I know that doesn't mean much, but it makes me wonder if he's more of a second or third-round guy.

They certainly made upgrades to OL

They did not make the OL outstanding

OL is still on the table first pick

Right now a LT would be more valuable than a 5th ball catcher

I hope you are correct, especially if one of the big 3 offensive linemen are still on the board, but still, I would not be surprised at all if Addison was the pick.

I doubt they will sign another ILB in free agency after signing two already, they need to find a coverage ILB in the draft.

I meant in terms of acquiring more players. Retaining Larry O was needed but nabbing young talent is of the upmost importance. If anything, I wouldn't be shocked if Brian Breese is the pick; something a lot of people will have a problem with.

    Yep.

He can turn out one of two ways; either a perennial Pro Bowler or a severe bust.

The thing is, if it’s the former it probably won’t be until 2024 at the very earliest, more likely later. Not really what I’m looking for at pick #17.

    Agreed.

Even if Breese hits and the Steelers do play him early and often, it takes Interior Lineman of both types at least two to three years of experience under their belt to develop. Hell, Cameron Heyward really did not become the All Pro we all know until 2015, if that.

throw OLB in there. They have nothing behind TJ or Highsmith again.

did you forget Jonathon Marshall and renell wren. Both were 6th round picks. They were added later last year. So it's not just loudermilk and leal. Adams is also still here. When I believe will have a shot at playing this year. 6-5 318 ran a 5.01 30 reps. 2 starts with cinci.

    I understand.

However, expecting players who were just recently signed to the Practice Squad to become major contributions is not the most ideal method for teams to not just compete but also hoist a Lombardi. Those circumstances often stem from necessity due to circumstance. As it stands, the Steelers don't currently have a necessity to do so as the Draft is around the corner and can draft players who have more potential than those that don't. An athletic profile only goes so far.

I'm just glad they moved on from the Davis twins. Talk about unfulfilled potential!!

When has some NFL tape and was active for us the last two games. They know more about him then they do a draft pick. They have seen him against our players on the practice field.

Carlos showed but was always hurt. His brother had his one moment at the end of one of our preseason games when he destroyed one guy at the end of the game.
