Nothing amazing in FA, but overall the team is better than it was last year. Even two mediocre ILBs is a big step up from last season.

The OL is at least deeper, if not slightly better.

Moving from Sutton to Petersen is a slight loss in my opinion, but I expect they’ll draft a CB early (one of their first three picks). They really don’t have much choice at this point.

Everytime I feel good we are making the right moves it seems the strong teams just get stronger. Maybe I’ll just look at Steelers news only and pretend we are almost there.

Like who though? That said, the way I see it, we have to simply compete differently. That's how you get an edge

Only 3 inside linebackers on the roster now? Are they going to sign one or two more or double dip in the draft

If Brown was that good, don't you think the Chiefs would've kept him?

Just saw Justina Anderson from ESPN say the same thing. If Bud passes the physical he'll be a Steeler again.

They didn't tender any of their RFA's, all of those players are now free agents.

Is everyone forgetting about the WR position ? Gunner is in line to be #3 WR and he is hot garbage.
How about some more help for our young QB. And yes i know about the young speedy 170 pound one that cant get healthy.

If I was to guess, the plan would be for them to roll out Holcomb and Roberts as the starters and pick best available cornerback or offensive lineman with the first two pics. Maybe then going after defensive line or another inside linebacker. Maybe Jack Campbell or another one of the solid inside linebackers is still there at 49.

It has been attributed to the DL, but it isn't the DL's fault. People think because we don't have a space eater NT that our DL is the problem vs the run, but they are wrong. It was the LB room, and it always was.

We either gave up splash plays or had a DL stop the runner for minimal to no gain. Not much in between. This is because our DL was actually effective, but if they didn't dominate the LOS on a given play the LB's were susceptible to being washed out or just in the wrong place. This forced our secondary to have to come down and clean up plays after quality gains. Our DL carried the run defense. I expect the run defense to be more consistent if the LB play gets better.

It seems like the Steelers believe that the ILB position was the problem too. They traded for Williamson, then Schobert, then signed Jack... now they just cast every non-rookie LBer off the team and went after a whole new room.

He is going to a team that competed for a super bowl the last two years

    That’s a factor

I would have to imagine they will address that in the middle rounds?

LOL... Don't being trying to put words in my mouth. I just remember seeing Kendrick Green in sweat pants for most of last year. Green will get his 90 man roster invite to camp this year, but unless something has changed he will need to show some kind of improvement to make the final cut.

I was commenting on how JC was not retained as a restricted free agent. Not sure who the backup center is going to be, maybe in the draft going after Luke Wypler in the 3rd round? Wypler is a young kid who could one day be a starter, but is going to need some time behind Cole learning the NFL game.

I think someone mentioned that the new guard they just singed can also play Center, so maybe he will be the BJ Finney type replacement who backs up both guard and center.

#3 WR yes #3 ball catcher no

He’s behind the tight ends and running backs as well

Getting overly excited about a 5th receiving player is much ado about nothing

One of these picks will be a WR and, yes, counting out Austin is a mistake.
    • Round 2, Pick 32 overall
    • Round 2, Pick 49 overall
    • Round 3, Pick 80 overall
    • Round 4, Pick 120 overall

Thats not good enough for me.
I would draft one with our second pick in round 2. You need to score points in our conference.
You can hold off the DL top pick until next year.

I thought Austin would be sitting at the #3 WR position this year.

That is where I plan to have him when camp opens as the #3 WR on my Steelers board for 2023.

If we take a WR in round 2 it’s not to be a #3 WR it’s to replace DJ and I would be good with that

When measurables and value don't add up, then you get the release of Myles Jack.

I do understand this but it puts the team in the need column again ay ILB. (They needed depth anyway)
The production just didn't warrant $8 mil per season.
With some of the vets that are being cut, I suspect the Steelers have a target in mind.
For the record, I was ok with Jack returning.. but I can understand where the team is coming from.

Edit: Roberts is the answer so they say. Not a bad signing. He is an upgrade.

I wouldn't be opposed to that. If the draft is really as deep as they say at wide receiver, they could wait until pick 80 though, no? I definitely think offensive line and cornerback come before receiver as position of need. Inside linebacker and defensive lineman over receiver is still debatable.
