I'd keep Sims around, I thought that kid was halfway decent. Olszewski was pretty bad last season. If they brinng Gunnar back at Sims' expense I'd probably be a bit upset. Not that Sims is a star but Olszewski was pretty much useless all year.

They sold out to try to win it all on Chase and Burrow's rookie deals. Can't say I blame them. They are going to shed A LOT of talent in a couple years. Their window is probably another 1-2 years until Chase and Burrow account for like 80 million a year in cap space.

It just boils down to the Raiders paying him 4.5million a season with 4 guaranteed. He isn't worth that price (at least the Steelers felt that way) and we went out and spent that money on someone who is better.

I don't have any ill will against Spillane. He was limited, but he did what he could and got the most out of his talents. He's just not that great of a player. Another Spillane can be had at any moment, so it wasn't worth the bidding war.

This is the way you build a team.
Get your QB, and then surround him with as many All-Pro offensive linemen as possible.

Screw the Defense, it is the new NFL, you just need to outscore your opponent.

I see another Bengals vs Chiefs game in the AFC Championship this year.

Shocked on the price as Brown's Cap hit is going to be about as much as Chuks is this year.

Don’t worry Steelers will sign some no name undrafted Tackle and the quest for 500 will carry on forevermore!

It is more frustrating than interesting. The primary reason the Steelers beat the Bengals once last year was by attacking their weakness on the offensive line. Now they missed out on the huge upgrade they could have had while seeing the team they are chasing in the division correct a huge flaw. I understand that the Steelers are going to have to pay Highsmith soon, possibly this offseason, but the Bengals have guys on rookie deals they will have to pay soon, too. The Steelers should have found a way to get Brown. That one signing could easily be the difference in the division.

We couldn’t beat that deal for a young Pro Bowl LT?

The Steelers were never seriously in the running for Brown. There is no way the Steelers pay that kind of money for an offensive lineman in free agency. They always look to the mid range free agents and it's worked for them over the years. I get frustrated seeing all the top talent sign elsewhere but it's just "not the Steelers way" to make that kind of a signing. We will see how it works out in the coming years. They typically sign their own free agents over ones on other teams.

It would have been nice to sign an OT like Brown.
But I think the Steelers are going all in on OT and CB in the draft.
You can grab a good to elite one for less cap hit for 4-years and pay up down the road if he's everything you thought.
Not a knock against Brown, I was surprised he lasted as long as he did on the market. OT's don't last long out there.

The Bengals over the past couple years went to a Super Bowl and were ripped off this year from a return.. they need 'instant gratification' as some pointed out, the window is now.

Yep. Was just about to post this. They are $15M under the cap now and can make more room if necessary. It may be for Highsmith but I don't think they are done in FA. It looks like there are more open roster spots right now than the draft can fill, unless we really do keep guys like Crowder, McFarland, Teague, etc.

I’d like to think so but still have these guys to tend to:

    • Tight end Zach Gentry
    • Running back Jeremy Nichols
    • Fullback Derek Watt
    • Wide receiver Miles Boykin
    • Wide receiver Steven Sims
    • Running back Benny Snell
    • Special teamer Marcus Allen
    • Quarterback Mason Rudolph
    • Center J.C. Hassenauer
    • Offensive lineman Jesse Davis
    • Offensive lineman Trent Scott
    • Cornerback James Pierre
    • Safety Terrell Edmunds
    • Inside linebacker Devin Bush
    • Defensive lineman Chris Wormley
    • Outside linebacker Malik Reed
    • Defensive lineman Tyson Alualu
You figure they will try to retain some of this. Gentry and Edmunds costing the most and God forbid, Bush.

They can free up more cap though if there is an outside FA they have their eye on.

    Here's your Nickelback.
    "Look at that photograph"
"Every time I do it makes me laugh"
"How did our eyes get so red?"
"And what the hell is on Joey's head?"

Rollers is right. I think the signing bonus was the key. The Steelers weren't going to give out a $31 million signing bonus, which is what the Bengals did to get Brown. The Steelers would have had to give him even more. This would have been a good time to go against their past tendencies.

I know this is way down the list of priorities but, I would like to move on from Benny Snell Football... Get a good , solid #2 RB...

Tomlin loves to run his #1 RB's wheels off and Najee has a propensity to get injury...

The RB position does NOT get paid...Get a good one for cheap, and you can lessen the load of Najee ( If Tomlin would do it ) and actually get productivity when Najee is out...
