So what’s the consensus from the board? I for one am very excited about this signing. He’s got athletic measurable that are Bush-like and apparently called the defense in Washington so he’s Spillane-like in that regard. And the dude’s got some pop to his pads. If he’s healthy from the foot injury, he may be a signing on par with James Farrior from a few years back. Thoughts?

He would appear to be a better version of Spillane, he ran a 4.5, and might be more athletic and a little better in coverage.

A more twitched up Robert Spillane who can cover. Essentially, one of two three down Linebackers that we need. The other will have to be had in the NFL Draft at this point. I seriously hope Tomlin, Kahn, Austin and new ILB Coach Aaron Curry head to Iowa's Pro Day on March 20th. If not Iowa, please oh please Arkansas on March 29th via Drew Sanders!!!!

    Either or would suffice!! :beg:

I was listening to 93.7 The Fan today, and Joe Starkey was saying that (according to ESPN) that Holcomb's foot issue was a Lisfranc injury. We Steeler fans are all too familiar with Lisfranc injuries. From what I have read, recovery time is in the 7-12 month range, so I am hoping he is ready to go by the start of the season. If he does make a full recovery, I think he can really help this team!

Gawd, we already talked about this in the off season/Free agency thread. Why’s it so hard to look in there.

Agreed. Good signing should be a solid contributor. And that is what we need.

    Thanks for posting...in separate thread!

If he turns out to be comparable to Farrior, who in my humble opinion, played HoF caliber football for the Steelers, I'll be thrilled.

They needed to add to this position savy. The only downside is the Lisfranc injury. Just watching the tape of him blowing up Elliot (a thing of beauty) and man he seems like a fly to the ball type with a high motor. Hopefully his coverage skills are at the least average. This would be an upgrade of what we have seen of late. A presence in the middle to strike fear. Yes he is a replacement for Spillane. Spillane was a lunch pale type below average in coverage.
But I have a feeling this kid might be just what we needed.

In talking with some Washington fans, they hate to see him go, makes a lot of tackles and always seems to be in the right place. I think a slight upgrade
over Spillane and definitely better than Bush.

From what I've seen he is the opposite of Devin Bush. Holcomb hustles and isn't afraid of contact.

Talked to one of my Commander fan relatives last night... and he said Steelers got a great player in Holcomb. He was pissed that Commanders let him go.

well, yes - we all would! that is a high bar. I am hopeful, just don't know enough about him

of course, Farrior played under a HOF defensive coach. not sure we have the same situation here today

I sure hope so! But I also remember “experts” saying that Mason Rudolph was the steal of the draft.
