No, not at all. I was just ( sarcastically ) jumping on the bandwagon . Spillane has been trashed on this board for a couple years, especially on gameday threads !

It’s hard to have intelligent conversations when people blindly follow the narrative set by a few. “ He set our defense back”!! “He’s less athletic than bush and can’t cover”!! “ He should stay on ST where’s he is ok”!!! “Jack wears the dot, not Spillane “!!!

This dude was a nobody and hard work and intense film study made him not only a starter but the defensive play caller and a Solid ILB in the NFL. He should have been celebrated for what he was able to accomplish and do for this team during the failures of Bush and shobert and YES even Myles Jack who is only a shell of what he could have been.

But all this board cares about is he is a liability in coverage so good riddance. I’m tired, he is gone so y’all win, the bum is outta here!

Sadly, Holcomb will be the new punching bag early in the season, guaranteed!

I am a bit irritated, Spillane was undrafted and has out played two former first rd picks. He was our Best LB last yr, played very well And All you here on this board is he is a liability in coverage. Guess what? News flash: no he wasn’t ! Coverage was his weakness area but due to film study he played smart, diagnosed the plays and kept whoever came into his area from having big gains or even TDs. He was better in coverage than bush and Jack. Analytics backs that up as does the film.

He wasn’t Allpro, but if not for him where would our season have gone? But he was the reason our defense was held back, because he struggled in coverage, right ??

Yep... People get made up narratives in their heads...We all know Bush was terrible, and everyone wants to pile on and deservedly so, but Jack was just as bad... terrible! At the end of the year, Spillane AND Robinson were playing ahead of Bush and Jack!

But it's ALWAYS Bush is complete A** , but Jack " was ok, he'll be good " ...no he wasn't...He was terrible, and has been for the last 2 years!

Wagner was actually good with the Rams last season, I doubt the Steelers are interested in him though due to his age and asking price.

They still have time to rework Trubisky's contract to lower his cap hit, I doubt Mason wants to stay in Pittsburgh.

Did we sign him ? I see a report. 2 years, 8M with 4M guaranteed. Also saw where we were going to resign Ojunabi.

Schobert wasn't old, but he had played poorly the previous season. That is why I say he was in decline, not his age. I remember reading about some concern that his level of play had dropped off during his year with the Jaguars.

Holcomb moves well laterally in run defense. Spillane does not. That exchange was an upgrade for the Steelers, though Holcomb also isn't great in pass coverage.

I don’t think Tribisky will take the pay cut for no reason either. Except for one scenario…

Maybe he has come to the conclusion that he’s now and forever a career backup. He got his legit second chance with the Steelers and it didn’t work out.

So, he doesn’t re-structure, but they give him a new extended contract for 3-4 years that is reasonable for both sides at a lower yearly price tag and we are set at back-up with a good enough vet for a good long while.

We get back 3-4 million this year to hopefully put into another positional need.

That’s the scenario I like the absolute best!

Sorry. Didn't know this forum had to be so neat and tidy. I noticed many readers, just like me, don't have time to thumb through every signing and its much easier to see each one headlined. But I'll spend less time here since its quite "stiff" for my liking.

I didn't say he was going to take a pay cut, I was talking about an extension to lower his cap hit in 2023.

Ok ok… You didn’t say extension either. That is the only scenario that seems feasible and still not the same as re-working.

Steelers need to address the WR position.

I would love that too, but I agree it may not be doable.
