Offseason Moves/Free agent signings

Cut Gunner? Who else is going to run those jet sweeps for a 2 yard gain when it's 3rd and 4? lol

 

I've seen Holcomb play a little. I like him, he is really active out on the field, good communicator getting his guys lined up. He isn't the full package, but should be a decent player for us.

 

Haven't heard if they are keeping Myles Jack yet. Is he worth the $11.25 million cap hit this year, or are we better off cutting him and taking the $8 million in savings?

 

Curious what the status of Bush is...is he a free agent? Just hoping he does not come back, but was wondering if he was under contract.

I am still holding out hope for Rahsaan Evans; who called the defense last year for Atlanta in his first year there.

 

The Steelers don't do dynamic splashes in free agency.

 

I said in an earlier post....In the last 2 years combined, Jack has ZERO Interceptions/ Sacks / TFL/ Forced Fumbles / Fumble recoveries...

He is garbage, and gets a pass because of his name...By the end of last year, The Steelers were playing Spillane and Robinson over Bush and Jack...

 

I can't really speculate, and even though I do keep myself in good shape... I'm not sure I'll be around by then...

 

I'm trying to keep my level of excitement down about the Holcomb signing. I remember being fairly optimistic when the Steelers signed Joe Schobert and that didn't work out so well. I realize they are players who may have different skill sets but I looked up Joe's stats in 2020 prior to coming to the Steelers, and Holcomb's stats from 2021. I went with Holcomb's 2021 stats because he was hurt for most of last year. In both of those seasons where each player played all 16 games, their stats were very similar. I just hope that Holcomb is able to fit into this defensive scheme better than Schobert did.

The $3.25 million is a sunk cost. The question is whether or not Jack is worth $8 million for the 2023 season. I wouldn't be shocked to see them move on if they can sign another linebacker, but they may just go with Jack and hope he can get healthy and rebound.

 

Schobert and Jack had both been very good players at one point, but they had shown some decline before the Steelers got them. Holcomb is a young guy who was still playing at his highest level before he got hurt last season. The foot injury is a concern, but this is not the same situation as they had with either of those guys.

 

I think we're done with the FA market..... The only 2 FA's left that have caught my eye are bobby Wagner and and Fletcher Cox, and both of them will cost an arm and a leg (and possibly someone's 1st born)..... The rest is gonna be laid on the draft...

 

Agreed...Like You said....if the foot is healed. I heard it said....only if He passed the Steelers physical....So.....

 

I can see them bringing Edmunds back, though maybe it would be him as the backup rather than Kazee.

 

They haven't announced any restructures yet, once they do that they could sign some more players, I would be interested in Bud Dupree for the right price.
