They didn't sign him to be a special teams contributor. Before he hurt his foot he was a very good linebacker. He may indeed play some on special teams but they are looking at him as a starter inside. I like this signing

Yes going into the draft we needed a CB, ILB, O Line and DLine help. So far the Steelers have addressed all of that in free agency.

Why? He's been a good linebacker that starts inside. He's an upgrade on anything we have right now

We are addressing needs and haven’t hit the draft yet. Steelers don’t have the money for superstars so it’s a win imo

I became a fan of him a couple of years ago when he had a pick six against Dak Prescott to beat the Cowgirls.

I would still like to see them add another safety and a veteran receiver, but with the addition of Holcomb, they have done a decent job in free agency.

Let’s be honest - pretty much any addition at ILB for the Steelers should be an upgrade over last season.

Just checked his stats and if his foot is good to go then yes he is an upgrade over Spillane. So I stand corrected. Which isn't much :hehehe:

Now what to do with Jack. They have to get that cap hit down if he stays.

I'm still hoping we sign Adam Thielen. He visited the Panthers yesterday but hasn't signed yet.

That's true and he isn't the guy I wanted. Holcomb removes the need to reach for a linebacker, though they could still end up taking one with one of the second-round picks. They could go for somebody like Branch at 17 or Simpson at 32 even though there is some question where those two would play in base defenses.

if anthony miller stays healthy, he may be some good depth at receiver. i do believe they had some plans for him last year early before he was injured. sims kind of took over at that point. not saying adding one wouldn't help but with austin and miller here there is some depth. if both stay injury free of course. vet leadership is not great right now. DJ, miller, gunner.

I know nothing about him but Commander fans seemed to like him and are upset the team didnt bring him back. Say the Steelers got a good player.

Some of the negative stuff Im seeing is same Spillane criticism, can’t cover.

I’ll have to dig into him more.

somebody either goes or they restructure a deal or two for some cash but jacks hit wouldn't be terrible with this better linebacker next to him. crowder to me is a good backup sitting here already and whatever we pull from robinson should help. i'm not hating this room right now. holcomb is only 26.

Holcomb has a sweet mullet. So there's that.

Again, working in that second FA tier, this could be a nice move. Kid was good when healthy, though to be fair, he was playing behind a very good DL in Washington.

Holcomb, the mohawk guy! Good signing.

Matt is an upgrade over Spillane. He has the smarts like Spillane but has a better skill set.
Big heart too... the guy can make plays.
Nowhere near elite, but solid play and was the signal caller for defenses.
    3-4 Defense experience too.
He fits in with Steeler LB mentality.

I have a hard time looking at Miller as viable depth. If I remember correctly, he was healthy and still couldn't get on the field in 2021. Adding a veteran could have the added bonus of keeping them from using a premium pick on one. Maybe if Addison falls to 32, but even then I wouldn't love it given their other needs.

If his foot checks out true. His stats are not bad. They have to deal with the Jack cap hit if they keep him. I can't see them letting Robinson becoming a full time starter right away but I could be wrong. They release Jack and its a 8 mill cap savings with a 3,250 dead cap hit.

They will draft one but not with the first 2 picks I feel. I still want the franchise left tackle then corner. They still need to address the swing OLBer situation with a pick.

i just remember miller's name coming up a lot in camp last year, if i remember correctly, he was running as the #3 i thought and then the injury. sims and gunner then took over that role.

Man, I want to like Crowder but he looks like Devin Bush Light to me. He runs well but won't attack a hole, can't shed a block, he's late to everything. The Giants gave him a starting job and he lasted 8 games before being benched and then released. As a 4th ILB, we could do worse I guess but you'd have to think it's Jack, Holcomb, Robinson and a Draft Pick. I supposed they could keep a 5th ILB for Special Teams.

Holcomb is way better than many of y’all make him out to be. He’s an absolute monster tackler, has the ability to make game-changing plays and he’s still really young. He’s not elite but he’s very good and his abilities should play up in the defense

Please try to remember the front office doesn't give physicals before signing free agents because the organization is cheap and the staff sucks. Lol green font engaged.

he had 6, 17, and 8 game starts. they brought in a new defensive coordinator during his time there with a different scheme and crowder kind of got replaced mostly for that reason. i remember reading something about that back then. maybe we breed new life into his game with our defense. he's been pretty solid though for his role.
