I don't get it. Atlanta gave him a 1 year "Prove It Deal" and he balled out for them last year. Why didn't Atlanta already resign him?

"The result was a highly productive campaign in which he racked up six tackles for loss, four passes defended, two sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries on top of his 159 tackles, good for seventh-most in the NFL. Evans was also Atlanta's defensive signal caller and communicator, only adding to his value. "

Looks like the Steelers have some history already with Evans NFL potential. He would be one of those guys the Steelers pick up and talk about how they wanted him when he came out of college.

That 3 Safety look was pretty effective when they were all healthy.

I don’t know his injury history before he was a Steeler besides the failed physical with Chicago. But last year for us he was banged up in game quite a bit and missed chunks of games. If he can stay relatively healthy he is a decent DL nothing crazy.

When healthy, there were some games he just took over

For a long time and during their best years, the Packers were not players in Free Agency.
I just mention that as the Steelers are playing that sort of game, and really that's status quo here anyway.
    It's a frustrating time.
Some teams win the offseason a lot but yet wind up with a roster of disappointment.
I kind of subscribe to looking at younger first contract type players as well and look to add a vet(s) that gets pushed out due to the cap or draft results.

    To rehash my wish list
OL - Need to add a quality OT. and add/upgrade depth. They added Nate Herbig that adds versatility. I hope they have an OT targeted in the draft.
ILB - Losing Robert Spillane is a disappointment to me. I am also concerned about the lack of focus on this position. It looks like they are going to rely on the draft.
DL - They brought back Larry O. and can add depth via the draft. Matt Ioannidis would be a good backup for the right price. In rotations, he works well.
CB - Peterson should fit in the scheme of mixed coverages and he is probably a good mentor. They are going to have to get a CB in the draft.

I don't like the idea of Lavonte David (33) coming in. I saw that pitched a few times. Youth and speed are my preference.
Lastly, they still need to look to add a coach or maybe two.

I always think of an interview with Dave wannstadt(sp?) regarding free agency. I’m a nutshell you have to be really careful with free agents because there’s always a reason teams are letting players walk. Sometimes it’s simply for cap reasons in others it’s locker room issues, decline in performance etc

I agree with most of this, though I think David could play a similar role to the one you mentioned for Peterson. He helps on the field, but also as a mentor to younger players. They need one more competent inside linebacker. They were already bad at the position in 2022, and they only got worse with Spillane leaving. They need to address that, and they have really dropped the ball so far in free agency.

It is on the lethargic side.
I am to say the least, suffering some anxiety over this ILB situation.
Are they playing games with Bush and looking for him to come back?
Are they really depending on the draft to pick up a couple LB's to fill with?
They've ignored some good value and why did they think the Dallas LB was the one to target? He's always hurt.

it's all about you isn't it. just kidding. he's solid. we could have done much worse. with he, crowder, jack and robinson, this room looks much better. there is production from the first 3 and robinson looks to have some upside. new coach as well, which i believe was needed. there are still some good one's going to be in this draft as well.

Holcomb is a Spillane replacement. Will contribute on special teams and get some defensive snaps providing he passes the physical. Had a foot injury and surgery that ended his 2022 season.

I don't know much about Holcomb. NFL Network has him at No. 43 on its list of the top available free agents this offseason regardless of position.

Assuming his foot is fully healed, Holcomb looks like an upgrade over Spillane, but not much of one. He's a viable starter, but nothing special.

3 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles, 388 tackles for holcomb. spillane 1 interception, 191 tackles. a little bit of a difference ck. :smiley1::cool:

Holcomb was the starting MLB for the Redskins (won't call them Commanders) last year until he injured his foot. He isn't an All Pro but still an upgrade over Spillane. If he is healthy then it's a good signing.
