    That 5.85 guarantee is the Steelers sweet spot. That’s what they are comfortable handing out.

    Pretty safe bet that this FA period will employ the same strategy as the Colbert years. Value signings and draft players to develop. You just hope you get 2 productive years out of Peterson while bringing along the draft pick.

    It's worthy to note that Peterson had more picks than any Steelers except Fitzpatrick in 2022. And he is more likely to catch the interception opportunity than let it slip through his hands as we witnessed last season.

    Have to believe they knew they couldn’t afford Sutton. This signing happened quick after losing him

    So the Lions have signed Larry Foote, Jesse James, and now Cameron Sutton away from the Steelers. Even though it feels like the Steelers are losing a good player, kind of like when they lost Mike Hilton, I believe the Steelers found a replacement quickly in Peterson. They never have been able to replace what Hilton gave them.

    Anyone have a way of searching who those INT’s were from? Love to see some clips to judge if they were high quality or tipped passes or gummies from bad qbs and bad decisions.

    Im always looking for quality INT’s and sacks during people’s game tape.

    I swear Jarvis Jones college sack production vs. the quality was horrible. I knew the moment I saw his tape he wasn’t worth the pick.

    Yes, I know PP has the gawdy career stats yadda yadda and the game tape over the years. But I’m looking for recent years…

    I’m obviously just hoping he really desires to give 100% effort and ball out rather than simply make a few more deposits riding off in the sunset half hearted. Lots of teams have seen this shuck and jive before from great vets.

    TBF, when he was on the Steelers other teams isolated him and exploited what he doesn't do well.

    I'm sure he wouldn't turn down any GUMMIES from opposing QBs. I just hope they're not those really tough ones with no flavor!

    They can afford a three-year, $33 million contract. They chose to save money at cornerback. If they don't apply that money to getting help at inside linebacker and/or the offensive line, it is a failure by the front office.

    They would have easily matched that if they weren't already looking at Peterson. They let Sutton walk cause they're getting a much better player and it's not nearly costing as much. Sure, he's a bit older but his stats show that it's worth the gamble. Also, the Lions paying 11 million a season for Cam is pretty dumb. He's not really a standout player. Peterson has been a standout his whole career. Steelers got this one right.

    I have some gut feeling that they wanted both PP and Sutton and we’re working on both know that one could be lost that they’d net at least one. I’m thinking they started talking to Peterson’s agent with an offer right away while offering Cam a fair but lower deal than the Lions and he went for the $$$ and not the home team discount.

    Given the low guarantees this is effectively a one year deal with a team option for a second year.

    Hopefully they draft a good young corner this year

    Peterson ran a 4.31 40. If he's lost a step, he's still fast.

    I said it before ... coach is no good in drafting. So wait for free agency and get that guy that you wanted in previous drafts. He is still better then what we have and for less

    You have no idea what you are talking about. He was better in his last 4 years than he was between 2015 to 2019.
    * 8 Time Pro Bowler *

    2015 - 2019 Stats ---174 Tackles, 8 INT'S 0 TD's.

    2019 - 2022 Stats ---209 Tackles, 11 INT's 1 TD.

    * 0 Pro Bowler *

    Cam Sutton 2019 - 2022 --- 119 Tackles, 2 INT's 0 TD's.

    I swear the hate is just strong with some people. If you can't see that he is an upgrade from a mediocre Cam Sutton then you are clearly blind.

    No argument on Peterson, or that he will be an upgrade on the outside over Sutton IF he doesn’t start to degrade physically. Disagree on Sutton being mediocre. Sutton had been gradually improving over recent seasons and played well last year. He also brings positional versatility because he is as comfortable in the slot as he is outside.

    Too bad we couldn’t grab Peterson and keep Sutton.

    It’s an age thing. Let an up and coming player get away for a guy you will have for a year or two.

    Sutton is better than mediocre, he was 9th in fewest yards given up by a CB. He’s a good player and getting better every season.

    It was an easy contract to match. If they aren’t pooling the money saved by this signing to put towards an ILB as Scribe mentioned, it’s a failure by the team.
