It is absolutely a bad thing. Terrible in fact. THE only reason he wants to do any of the non-sensical things that his dumb A$$ is suggesting is to pad the owners pockets. period. Which I get, but for the game, it would be awful. Continuing to dilute an already dominant product. Think about it.......teams that are 8-8 and 7-9 could easily get in. That is ridiculous. If the Steelers finish 8-8 (and really 9-7 IMO), they don't deserve to get in and should not be rewarded for a terrible year.

One fix to that problem would be to eliminate the conferences. 8 division winners vs the next 8 best records. 1 plays 16, 2-15...and so on. Reseed after each round. Hmmmm, maybe that would work?

Of course you would think this is a good idea. Its terrible. Yeah lets let HALF of the league into the playoffs...shoot some years they've had teams with .500 or below records in as it is...they don't need more of that. If it isn't broke DONT FIX IT!

Goodell needs to go. Quit messing with football and leave it alone. Pete Rozzell and Tags made a perfect NFL, and he is ruining it.

I don't disagree, but here's the thing, Goodell speaks on behalf of the owners. Goodell's sole job is to run the NFL how the owners want it to be run. So while Goodell is an easy target and can shoulder blame for some of the smaller things such as player discipline, all the rule changes (both implemented and proposed) are a result of the owners and GM's around the league wanting these things.

Okay, if there are 8 teams from the AFC, does that mean they do away with the bye weeks for the 1st and 2nd seeds? I remember in 2002, there was some whining about all the teams with byes moving forward. Only the Steelers, who dramatically beat the Browns the week before even made it close versus the Titans. But that was before Roger's time.

Adding another week doesn't seem to make sense. The 1st and 2nd seeds would be off for 2 weeks, and that may be too much of a break. The 5th seed would play the 8th and 6th host 7th. Winners advance to play 3rd and 4th seeds.

Seems to me expanding to 14 or 16 teams would mean the loss of a bye week for the top seeds versus an additional week. If that be the case, right now, instead of a bye the Texans would host the Jets and the Patriots would host the Bengals. Now, let's say that is the case. That means there would 8 games the first week of the playoffs. Start at 12, 3, 7, and 10 on both Saturday and Sunday? 12 noon is awful early for the West Coast and 10 pm is awful late for the Eastern timezone. Otherwise, the games would compete with each other. 14 teams, with the 1st seed having a bye would reduce the first week to 6 games. 1, 4, and 8 Eastern.

Does this cheapen the league? I'm not so sure. Did the Steelers winning as the 6th seed cheapen the league in 2005?

I personally think Goodell and/or some of the owners told him to overturn the suspensions. The NFL desperately wants this Bountygate scandal to go away, and this is the best way for it to happen. They may also know that some of their evidence which appeared to be quite strong many months ago now appears to be a little wishy washy. I think a lot of what that Greg Williams said was BS and the league has figured that out as time has gone on. Of course Goodell and the owners can't admit they made a mistake at this point, so they'll just try to bury it and make it go away. That's what I believe anyway.

Which is why Godell recently got a long contract extension with a big fat salary increase. Some fans like to imagine Rog as some dictator, but he's far from it, he actually closer to a puppet. He's doing the bidding of his bosses, if he weren't he wouldn't be there.

I think there would be no more byes
    1-8
    2-7
    3-6
    4-5
Saturday would be quadruple header nfc
sunday would be quadruple header afc
it would one he** of a weekend

I think they would also end one preseason game which wolud be the perfect exchange

    Playoff 8th seed

With all the talk from godell then the boys at the nfl network starting to name "seeds" beyond 6, what do you think the likelyhood that the nfl goes to 16 team playoff.

That would allow the steelers this year to lose atleast one more and get in as a 7th at 8-8.

    A good idea??

    I think it's aweful

Personly i think 16 seed is just dumb, thats half the leag, and whats the acomplishmnt of that, 12 seed's is all we need if you ask me... Being a 500 team is nothing to brag abought.

and even under our current system 500 teams sneak in now and again and once in awhile it is as a division champ ....but that link above is to an already existing topic on this same subject

I actually like the idea to a certain extent, yet wouldn't want teams getting in with a 7-9 record. With that being said, I just don't know how I feel about it. I guess I'm just wondering how often 7-9 and 8-8 teams would sneak in. Maybe I could accept 8-8, and I'm not even sure about that.

i agree, losing one more is an awful idea. But if we did, that would put us at 9-7 not 8-8

I was meaning that 8-8 would still be 7th seed playoff bound
