Any slot receiver would be the fifth or sixth option with Pickens, Johnson, Freiermuth, and Harris out there. That could certainly limit his touches. My opposition was to the idea that he will be nothing more than a gimmick option.

I don't know that number of targets is as important as scheme and timing of when he is used. I would imagine they would want to use him like Tyreek Hill and get him the ball in space.
This is where it's really important that Canada comes up with the plays to utilize him at the right time during a game. The question will be, can Canada put him in the position to get the most out of his skill set.

This is a popular line of thinking, as I was actually going to post some thing similar to this. However, as I stated above, I couldn't find any statistical article that supported the claim that smaller receivers get hurt more frequently. Also, if he really is just the 5th or 6th option as you stated, his durability shouldn't be an issue anyway. I'm more concerned with how he will be used than his durability. The shortcomings of Canada and his route tree combinations could make Austin just a useless tool in the toolbox.

No matter who the 3rd WR is they will need to produce with limited opportunities.
Again there are only so many footballs to go around.

I have faith in Canada to really implement a game plan taking advantage of mismatches. Nothing I have seen from him so far would suggest otherwise

Multiple foot injuries and at least one surgery for a guy who relies on speed

    I’m not optimistic

He just looks tiny out there, 5’8 170lbs. The closest comparison I could find to him was Wes Welker at 5’9” 185lbs.

Would like to see Austin put 10lbs on, that shouldn’t hamper his speed too much.

I think he can be a good weapon if he can stay on the field.

Did he have multiple injuries or just one that he aggravated? I thought it was just the one, and they tried rehab in an attempt to avoid the surgery he ultimately needed.

I know way too much about foot problems from my own experience. I agree that it is a big concern, reason enough for the team not to rely on him entirely. I would like to see them add a receiver later in the draft or through free agency so they aren't counting on Austin or Sims in the slot. If Austin is healthy enough to take the job, great, but I wouldn't count on him until I see him actually suit up for a game.

I get it, Canada sucks. That speaks more about him than Austin's skill set.

He has to get on the field first before he can stay on the field.

I was looking for comparable height and weight.

I don’t think Austins diminutive stature helps. Smaller target more prone to head shots.

He certainly can be successful, there have been similar body types that have been but odds probably aren’t in his favor.

I remember similar arguments about Bush size and how no one at his height had ever been successful playing ILB. History can tell you things.

That's a solid point about the head shots. Hadn't really thought of that.

That's what I thought. I agree that it is reason for concern. Foot problems suck.

Well hope is Austin III puts his best foot forward...

Lets not forget about Steven Sims who is a RFA. I feel they will bring him back for another season.

Yes, but next year he’s going to take advantage of mismatches that favor us, not the other way around. It turns out that it just a misunderstanding on that subject all along. Now he knows the expectation.

London Fletcher was a superb LB at 5’10”. Elvis Dumerville was a top tier edge at 5’11” Sam Mills, ditto at 5’9”.

It’s rare, but it happens. Not a good idea to draft one in the top 10 though….

I still have high hopes for Austin.

This is not 20 years ago when WRs had to fight their way down the field to get open.

So You had a talk with Him then, and set Him straight???
    LoL
Actually I hope He opened His eyes , and ears. A Man can learn a lot from that, and I expect us to be better.
