Very good draft for Colberts swan song. They need another one like that this year.

Definitely a solid swan song from Colbert. Hopefully Calvin Austin III can contribute this upcoming season. A lot of young talent.

Number 1 if you ask me. They stole the next Joe burrow at pick 20 that all these teams were too dumb to see.

Being considered #6 while drafting in the 20th slot among 32 teams is pretty solid.

But… let’s revisit this in a year or two. There’s a lot of football to be played before we really know this draft class.

True, but you know news outlets aren't going to exercise that sort of patience, so it certainly won't happen here.

We need to see if Leal and Robinson develop into starters. We have to see if Pickens really does become an elite receiver, or if Austin can contribute at all.

That said, this draft will ultimately be judged based on Pickett. If he is a bust, that probably ruins the draft. If he is something like Andy Dalton, the draft will always be divisive no matter what all those other guys do. If he becomes a franchise quarterback who helps make the Steelers contenders again, it probably would be regarded as one of the top two or three drafts of 2022 regardless of what the other players do.

I typically prefer to wait 2-years before grading it out.
Obviously, if you drafted Burrows you're going to get an A..

Pickett has been impressive, but he has to take it to the next level.
** He wasn't an "Elite" prospect, just the most "NFL ready" prospect from that class. I am talking about the next level being a 2nd tier starter, with potential to be 1st tier.
(Sort of the Joe Montana rise, he was good when he started but rose to God-Mode - If we could be so lucky!)

This exactly. While it looks good now....let's hope it stays good.
Y'all should know how I feel about making snap judgments on any player.....unless they are a running Qb. LoL
    Anyone remember Chase Claypool????
    That's just one recent example.

yep - everyone prematurely speculating on a draft, you need 2-3 years to grade. But early reviews are good....

    yes - chase sucked.

but that has been well visited. give a draft at least 2 years to grade, 3 preferred.

Four of the teams ranked higher than the Steelers had two first round picks (the Jets, #1, had 3). Seattle had 2 2nd round picks.
The only team picking higher than the Steelers was KC, who had 2 first and 2 second round picks.

Steelers have an opportunity to really expedite title contention by hitting on essentially two first round picks in this years draft. If they get a shut down corner and a pro bowl type offensive lineman in those two picks, they shoot up really quickly next year.

No it's cause the person I was replying to which wasn't you, stated you can't write a player off until they've played more then 1 full season. So how can we say that they look good and praise them but then say you can't call them bad. You can't have it both ways.

    next year, as in 2024?

IF ifs and buts were candy and nuts, it'd be Christmas all year long.

There are LOTS of holes, and I am not sure if Pickett is elite (yet). Burrow will annoy us for years. Allen will as well, and Mahomes owns us. We have a hard hill to climb.

IF we don't fix the interior of this defense, get used to 7-10 win seasons...

He was saying that they look good so far, but that's not enough to make a lasting conclusion. We can just as easily say a player doesn't look good so far, but it's not time to write them off just yet.

I will respond to things that interest me regardless of who was addressed in the question, as we all do here.

If we get those I would probably consider us a (true) contender

They would but the odds of covering those two conditions is less than 50% and you would need a couple of years of seasoning to get up to speed

Doubly so in both Leal and CAIII's case. For Leal... what the hell is he?! No seriously, is he a IDL or an EDGE?! Both?! Personnel dependent?!

CAIII... still have very high hopes for him. I believe in him but I also believe the Steelers need to push him via drafting a WR... something I imagine they will be doing.

    Agreed.

For that matter, I think I will have to bust out the Woodford Reserve for me and @S.T.D on that in terms of the CB! I will even be happy with Cam Smith from South Carolina at this point!

    True.

Not everyone is Sauce Gardner of the Jets or RaShawn Slater of the Chargers. For that matter, Rookies being NFL All Pros are just so damn rare to begin with and it still surprises me that we all saw that happen in back to back years; doubly so in 2021 where both Parsons and Slater were given All Pro nods.

With Austin I just worry about him being able to stay healthy but his speed and route running will translate to the NFL.

I agree though, either draft one or bring in a FA. I’m seeing reports though that the Steelers are happy with Sims and Miller. :no2:
