It’s easy for any of us to pat ourselves on the back when we’re right about drafting (or not drafting) someone, and end up being right. How about when we’re wrong? Whether it’s being wrong because we didn’t want a player that the Steelers picked, or being happy with a draft pick who ended up sucking. Here’s a few for me.

    Players I liked:
    - Mike Adams, T, Ohio State (2012 2nd round #56 overall). I was 100% sure we had found our 10 year answer at LT. I had a solid lower 1st round grade on Adams, and was the guy I wanted in the 1st if DeCastro didn’t fall to us.
    - James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State (2018 2nd round #60 overall). I thought that JW’s combat catch ability that he displayed at OSU would translate to the NFL. It didn’t. He was just too slow to get consistent separation and wasn’t able to win 50/50 balls like he did in college.
    - Justin Layne, CB, Michigan State (2019 3rd round #83 overall). I really liked Layne as a developmental corner who could be a solid starter by 2021. He was fast and twitchy on tape, and just needed refinement and work on mechanics… or so I thought. I don’t know if we just failed to develop him, or if the potential was just not there.

    Players I didn’t like:
    - Lev Bell, RB, Michigan State (2013 2nd round, #48 overall). Man I hated this pick. I saw Bell as a fat, unexplosive RB, and expected him to be out of the league in 2 years. He was absolutely great for a stretch of a few years until he thought he could reset the market value of the RB position and blew up his own career.
    - Marcus Gilbert, T, Florida (2011 2nd round, #63 overall). I thought Gilbert was a 5th round or later OT. Soft and slow. He ended up being pretty damn solid for us for several years.
    - Drafting any QB in 2022. We’ll see whether I was right or wrong over the next few years, but I was on record as wanting to wait until this year to draft a QB. Also, my choice if we did draft a QB was Sam Howell. Right now I like what I’m seeing in Pickett, but the jury is still out. I want to eat a gut busting serving of crow and see KP become a top QB.

I'll just say that I've been wrong more often than not. Players I hated ended up doing good things and players I loved ended up sucking. *sigh*

I really liked the Washington pic too. It almost made up for drafting Edmonds too soon, or so i thought at the time.

I am embarrassed to say this but I was really excited about our 2008 draft. I thought Rashad Mendenhall was going to be an all pro RB year in and year out. I was elated when we picked Limas Sweed in round 2. He was big and fast and I saw him make 2 acrobatic TD catches against Notre Dame in the previous year at Texas. Mendenhall wasn't a complete bust but he certainly wasn't the franchise RB that I thought he was going to be. As for Sweed we all know that his name has become a punch line for any receiver that drops an easy pass.

Tj watt- I was totally 100% against drafting him in the first. Lack of experience and injuries concerned me to no end.

I thought they were just drafting him because of his brother (and potential). Glad I was wrong.

I actually wasn't wrong on any of those You mentioned ....believe it , or not......
    I was wrong on Heyward.
I was really... really...really wrong on wanting R.Gallery over Ben Roethlisberger.
I didn't want Najee, but not because I didn't think He was good, but because I wanted a CB. LoL. Who also is pretty dang good right now.
I also didn't want any Qb last year, but I like KFP, and pray I was wrong about Him, and I think I was.....which is a good thing.

I didn’t want Najee either. I was ready to roll the dice on Dickerson’s health at that point. I also liked Newsome at corner and Eichenberg at T/G (glad we didn’t do that last one…).

Im also guilty on Gallery, but I didn’t really watch players other than on live TV in those days.

I loved Gilbert coming out too. Still don’t know the story on him. Was it booze?

I was also a big fan of Eddie Lacy.

I'm not sure he loved football, IIRC there were some stories about his work ethic with the Browns.

I try not to get too hype for certain players because I know the transition from college to pro is too unpredictable. I have fallen victim a few times, but mostly tend to be either cautiously optimistic or cautiously negative

I didn't love the Najee Harris pick, but he's turned into a really nice RB. He's a poor man's Bell, but he runs REALLY hard, has good hands, can block, and really gets more than what's blocked pretty frequently. He's a good back, and I find myself being a pretty big supporter of his vs. other fans.

I liked the Sammie Coates pick. I thought he was really physical and had the tools to develop into an Anquan Boldin type. Didn't. WR's are a crapshoot lol our FO does a great job there.

I tend to get SUPER hyped for the Buckeyes being an alum and lifelong fan (Shazier and Holmes were some of my favorites). But I knew we screwed the pooch on the Adams pick. Being in college at the same time as him, I knew he was a really great kid and kind person... but he was pretty soft and was more concerned with hanging out with friends and smoking weed than anything else. I was pretty certain he didn't have the mentality to make it as a stud T in the NFL. I also didn't love the Doran Grant pick from OSU either. That kid was just a great athlete but a bad football player. Was a bit disappointed we took him as I thought he wouldn't last long (and didn't).

I was wrong about Mason Rudolph. I really thought we stole him in the third round and saw a lot of qualities in him that I thought would translate well to the NFL. I thought he could be Ben’s long-term successor. But I think we’ve seen enough at this point to know he’s a career backup.

    Players I was right about:
TJ Watt - Was banging the table for him in the first round and never expected him to last to our pick.
Stephon Tuitt - I thought he was a first round talent and was thrilled to get him where we got him.
Devin White - I wanted him over Busch.
Cam Heyward - I felt our Line needed some youth at the time and was really high on him.

    Players I was wrong about:
Tevin Jenkins - I really wanted him for our second rd pick and was even leaning towards him as our first rd pick. The book is still out but he certainly has not lived up to his pedigree.
Leo Chenal - This was my man crush last year. I though perhaps second or third. I don’t think he has done much for KC.
Najee Harris - Was very high on him coming out. I knew 1st rd was a little rich for a rb but I was desperate to see change and stability at the position. He hasn’t lived up to his pedigree in my mind.
Devin Busch - He was my consolation if we didn’t get White. I was happy at first but then that fizzled out quickly.
Malik Willis - I have to be honest I was leaning toward him over Pickett. Honestly though I didn’t want a QB in the first last year.
Jalen Hurts - I never expected him to be anything but a backup. Boy was I wrong.

My issue is I get hung up on "my guy" And I tend to focus on that and to hell! with objective arguments. I got the Jesse James draft pick right but I had him in the second and I think they took him in the third. I also get enamored of certain players that don't get a ton of notice but are written up like they're going to be the surprise of the draft. If I was in charge of the draft we wouldn't have won a game in the last 10 years. But I have a ton of fun following the draft!

This is funny. The man hasn't even played a whole season, but You know for a fact He's no good......LoL. Honestly think about that a minute, and now let's just think about how many Qbs people have said have been no good with more than a whole season, and now think are good.

    So Hurts is great now????
You forsure know He is good. One good season, and He's great??? The whole getting benched in Bama, the whole getting blown out in Oklahoma, the whole getting benched in Philadelphia last year.....the whole getting blown out in the playoffs last year, but because He had one good year this Year He's great????
    Truly just asking.
I'm not saying He won't be, but seems kinda early for that forecast.
