That is exactly what I've thought of Mendy since he first came to Pittsburgh. I never thought he was much of an improvement over FWP, and he just hasn't seemed to have much drive lately, just like Wallace. I love the fight I've seen in Redman and Dwyer this year, and I'm hopeful that those guys will continue to improve and get the running game back in gear.

We already have two power backs, plus W.Johnson, why would we need a third?

There were a few posts here that I was going to respond to, but I think this basically sums up my response. Both to Mendy's actions, and to some of the posts here.

Am I the only one that thinks they should just leave Mendenhall alone?

I get that they don't want to play him, and I don't really blame him for being frustrated (I don't blame the FO for not playing him either)... but it just seems like the Steelers are unnecessarily ending things on a bad note. We don't need him, let him finish out the season, keep him for depth just in case, and take the compensatory pick next year.

Just my opinion, I know people here hate Mendenhall and probably won't agree.

What kind of example would that set for everyone else? Mendy is not bigger then the team and I don't hate him but I absolutely am not in his corner on this one.

If Rainey could put on ten pounds of muscle he would be great to pair with Dwyer the question is would he still be as shifty

I'm not a hater, but nobody knows what goes on behind those closed doors. It might be a misunderstanding, it might be mendy mouthing off, who knows, but to be suspended for a game after being told he was inactive.... there had to be some substance to the issue. I support the steelers decision as they can't just let certain behavior continue in front of other players. They sent a message last week, and a stronger message this week.... it's really up to Mendy whether or not he hears that message.

Unfortunately for him, he did get hurt last year going into his contract year, and with his weak performances this season coupled with the discipline, I'd think he'll have a hard time finding work in the off season (well at least work at the payday he was probably expecting).

the good news is that B Batch is back on the team now!

i really like that kid - not so much for his playing (haven't seen much of him) but he seems (mostly) to be a good person (him going crazy on twitter from time to time notwithstanding, but then it's just being a jerk towards other jerks and not going full retard like Mendenhall ...)

I don't really hate Mendenhall, it's more that I was underwhelmed by him and think that any halfway decent RB we can get in next year's draft can mirror his production. not necessarily all Mendy's fault (yay crappy oline) but he's not that good to be deserving of a new contract.

a fast small power back that can turn the corner and is difficult to tackle , dwyer and redmann are bettis style , we need someone that can go out and receive with some burst , in short one new ray rice or mjd

Not knowing about having to show up for a game? Seems like Common sense to me. Even if it wasn't a requirement, you should still show up. This speaks of character. I remember he was MIA from the team including facilities when he broke his collar bone and didn't show up until he was getting some flack about it in the last couple games of the season. The dude just doesn't care. It's just a paycheck to him and it shows both in how he carries himself and the football.

I'm not in his corner, but I dunno I just don't think this is as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be. If it were anyone that was under contract next season, then I totally get it.

But it just seems like... Let him go pout if he wants to pout, don't even bother acknowledging it... That's just me though.

I'm not a Mendy guy even though it may seem that way. What I am is a supporter of talent, and in my eyes, Mendy is so far ahead of Dwyer and Redman that it's not even close. Redman and Dwyer are plodders. They're slow as all hell, they have no lateral quickness, and they can't make anyone miss. Show me another starting RB in the league that is like these two plugs? Lagarette Blount is the only guy I can think of, and we all know that Tampa Bay went out and drafted a RB in the 1st round because they know a starting RB that's a plodder isn't going to do the running game any favours.

I don't excuse Mendy for not showing up to the game. Regardless of the reason, it's unjustifiable. But at the same time, what in the hell is Tomlin doing? It's like Tomlin is trying to take out all the teams problems on Mendy. Wallace drops 5 balls a game, blame Mendy. Colon commits 3 penalties a game, blame Mendy. Dwyer fumbles, blame Mendy. Obviously that's not what's really happening, but we have a lot of problems on this team this year, Mendy was the least of those problems.

Stats don't lie, he isn't a fumbler like some think he is. Yeah, he had a bad game there a few weeks ago, but so did Dwyer and Redman. At least Mendy had an excuse, he hadn't played much this season and didn't get many carries that game either. Yet for some reason Tomlin wants to hang him out to dry while letting everyone else continue to make mistakes. Big deal, he yelled at the team after the SD game, what coach hasn't yelled at their team. Wallace holds out, plays like crap all year long, openly says he loses focus during games, yet he's out there every snap. Don't even mention the depth chart BS to me, that was meaningless. Curtis Brown just openly stated he wasn't mentally prepared for the SD game. Brown showboats while scoring a TD and gets a flag thrown on him. The same guys are committing penalties every week, especially on special teams. Nothing is happening to these guys. There's no accountability for the rest of the team, only Mendy apparently.

You want to hold him accountable for 2 fumbles in the game? Fine, do it, but hold everyone accountable. Not to mention that scratching our best RB while we're in the playoff hunt is an idiotic thing to do. Like him or hate him, Mendy is the most talented RB on the roster and it's not even close. Don't give me this BS about Dwyer will fight harder. This isn't high school football anymore where the guy who tries the hardest will succeed. The most talented players will prevail in the NFL, and that sure as hell isn't Dwyer or Redman. Plus, Mendy has just as much heart as Dwyer or Redman. I guarantee he wants to win as much as those guys do. He's not a likeable guy for various reasons, but he gives us the best chance to win. Why Tomlin feels the need to hang him out to dry and ignore every other problem on team is beyond me, but you can add that to the list of reasons why I can't stand that idiot coach of ours. He's all talk 99% of the time, and other 1% of the team, he completely overreacts.
