Wow! The good news I guess is with a year under Kennys belt this should hopefully change.

Gosh dang it they better bring in a passing coordinator.

I was just about to post this.

I'm guessing it's "simplified defense" but surely even a rookie QB knows how to run a hot route...?

That is really sad, but was expected with what you saw. Play calling and building on plays in order to get receivers open is another problem.

I was just going to post this from the Tribune Review. It's not surprising the elementary component of the offense and who is calling it.

We have another season with Canada. Sink or swim. I'm hoping for the latter. Pickett's arrow is pointing up but they best free the reins from both Tomlin and Canada.

not surprised by this. we ran many short routes anyway. it should expand in year two. the comfort level will increase for KP and they will start to challenge him to do other things. remember they are all fairly young together and they will build together. youngest offense in the league. much of the reason i would like to see another TE like darnell washington added for these two TE sets. TE's are a qb's friend. i know we have muth and heyward but heyward is still RB sized. muth has gotten better as a blocker too, but washington has size speed and great hands and is a very good blocker. the kid is man sized and athletic. more of a gentry size with muth/heyward ability as a receiver, with better blocking ability. i may be alone on this one but i'd love to see it.

So, they decided to re-sign the OC who couldn't even implement a real NFL offense?

As much as I want to get excited about next year because of Kenny’s youth and our draft capital how can you with this Pee Wee level offense. Absolutely pathetic that they are bringing MC back.

I have to believe they will bring in help, probably Leftwich as senior offensive assistant and then he takes over as OC in 2024.

Our cold routes weren't the greatest either.

    ***Rumor Alert***
I've 'heard' they are looking at bringing in 1 maybe 2 coaches.
I would imagine, the 2nd would be likely if Flores leaves.
I have no sense of accuracy on this rumor. I've done zero homework on this.

But maybe it fits on the offense.
Leftwich interviewed with the Ravens I think... I could see the Steelers stepping in on that.
I could also see that if they want to 'homegrow' Matt Canada, it would not hurt to bring in a guy like Leftwich to help.
    Maybe...

I also have an issue with this 'no hot route' thing.
    That doesn't even make sense.
But Pat is a very good player and doesn't run his mouth to hear his voice.
His comments will not play well... and if there's any truth about it, wow... Canada is a bigger failure than I thought.

well you know what, tomlin is still the head coach and mike sullivan isn't new to the league so if they thought this was that important to the progress they should have put it in. they don't have to wait on canada to do it. all the bad gets thrown on canada and all the good gets overlooked. last time i looked MT was a long tenured nfl coach.

i agree. wasn't he just fired? even with tom tom they underperformed. he had some really top receivers as well. not sure why leftwich would be the savior.

If no one ever hired fired coordinators the league would be deep into peewee level coaches by now.

This is pretty much how Roethlesberger was brought along his rookie year

Good post. I was just on another site criticizing a different coach of a different team I'm a fan of in basketball. I immediately was told that I was a racist POS (and I'm absolutely not), so I just sit on my hands regarding Tomlin.

Unless it was specifically talked about theres no way to know that.

Zero hot routes on the season is absurd. You’re just setting your QB up to be killed. Maybe Kenny avoids one of those concussions or both. He’s been playing football his whole life, I’m sure he could have handled a little more on his plate. Especially later in the season.

Contract. Why aren’t people getting that.

They did the same thing for Butler.

If his offense does not have hot routes at all, then I'm done writing anything that could even be perceived as defending the decision to keep him. I don't think that is the case. I think they chose to simplify things to the point of not using hot routes. That is stupid, too, but at least there is potential for growth. I just wonder how much of this simplification came from Canada and how much was ordered by Tomlin.

So what you're telling me is Canada is probably googlimg what is Hots?

Heck he's probably calling peewee league's asking what is a blitz and how do you stop it.
