The crazy thing is he can make most of the throws he is just a terrible decision maker and little to none awareness in the pocket.. Most QB'S fail because they are slow to process he seems to process fine just tries to force it when he should take a check down...

Basically I think it's his EGO that is holding him back the most...

He’s not going to agree to that unless he accepts being the backup. If he accepts being the backup, well then yeah, depending on the specific dollar value.

Trubisky should be extended to a Batch- like, cap friendly deal. He knows the offense and Steelers won't do any better than him in draft or free agency.

Now if you were making 8 million would you take a pay cut to 3 million?

    1. Mitch does not want to be here. He would take a trade, but it wouldn't be worth more than a 7th..... I would not be shocked to hear Mitch wants to end the contract somehow to where we do not have to pay him anything.
    2. Mason does not want to come back. he did not get a shot to show himself last year, and they did not give him a chance.
    3. Bennet is a being a drunk frat boy right now.... we do not need that here.

so we will take a vet for around 7 million.

Can better coaching, like San Fran or the Rams, fix his issues???? I would argue Mitch has never have good offensive coaches since entering the NFL.

And they played in the NFCCG but heaven help me for suggesting that the Eagles had an easy Playoff ride similar to the 85 Bears. I took crap for that today.

That discounts the fact that he wants to start. I don't think he’s ready to accept a backup roll and thats what he would be doing by staying here.

If the other option is zero million

And I’m guessing they would wind up around 5

Trubisky came off the bench to help the team beat Tampa Bay, but he sucked against the Ravens coming off of the bench, that was a winnable game and cost the team a playoff spot.

Can. Can of worms. A box would degrade quickly with worms in it a Can would not

Backups often do cost that much. Dalton was cheaper last year, but he cost $10 million in 2021.

Bennett may have lowered his draft value with some poor judgement.

Might get a decent one cheaper. I was surprised Jacoby made 4.3 with the Browns last year.

No biggie. Hell I seen people get public intox for just leaving a bar, and walking outside in the South.

After a bar hop, I got public intox charge in '94 by stumbling diagonally on a crosswalk while looking like a grunge hippie.

    The good ole days.

I’ve seen it happen often with guys who are brought in to compete as a starter and end up losing the job, but rarely for clear backups. Dalton was signed to be a stop gap starter for the Bears in 2021. Mariota’s first two seasons with the Raiders would be a better example (2 years/$17+ million), but that’s the Raiders. I really can’t recall any other time when a guy was paid close to $8 million to be the clear #2 QB other than the negotiated restructuring of Garappalo last offseason at 1 year/$7 million. Here’s a link that I just found from 2022: https://fanbuzz.com/nfl/highest-paid-backup-qbs/amp/

Would it make sense to make Trubisky the highest paid guy on that list for 2023?

At the expense of not reading every stuff!…I may come off as dumb, but I don’t see anybody wanting to trade for uncle Mitch and Mr Rooney currently sounds Like he’s cool with paying him his current wage to stay which I don’t think Mitch wants to do so who knows? Interesting off season for that part of the club

Fair point. Some of those salaries are lower than I realized. It is still a risk to assume they can sign a veteran for under $8 million, which is what Trubisky will actually cost the team if they keep him. The other part of his cap hit for 2023 is a sunk cost. Trubisky isn't good, but I'd take him over many of the guys on that list.

i'd kick the tires on the kid from UCLA in the draft. i'd move on from mitch and see who is out there in free agency. quite a list of qb's. i'm sure we can pick up a vet backup. i'd offer mason and see where it goes but i doubt he bites. he knows canada's system even better than mitch.

I think he goes round 6ish. Could be interesting. Pretty raw but very athletic.
