Had a feeling you were going to say the magnetic north. Just had to make sure something weird wasn't going on.

Actually the magnetic poles have been slowly changing for many years. This is not theory, or conspiracy. It's a fact every scientist that studies this stuff knows.

Now that....I don't know anything about. This is news to Me. Explain, or give Me references please. Not because I doubt, but because I'm curious.

Two theories on what it was and therefore why it was so bright

1 Apparently a supernova in the proper part of the sky burned out
This would have been very bright for a few months

2 It is also thought that Venus and Jupiter would have been in conjunction which would have looked like a very bright star

Othereise none of the brightest stars would have been in the right position at the right time

Do you know why the magnetic poles are north and south

It’s because the world is round

just thought I’d mention this :drinks:

The Earth may be round but after every Playoff game our boys lost that we were favored to win I tend to fall right off the edge.

Do you know why the stars go CW in southern hemisphere, while ccw in northern hemisphere?

With me being a photographer I've done long exposure and always wanted to go near the equator to get an image like this....
    download (4).jpeg

It's Because the world is round.

I'm not a flerf. Was just pointing out not many know the earth is a globe without regurgatating nasa. They can't think for themselves.

One other thing people don't know is the season being different. Our summers are their winters. And flerfs like to say long days don't exist in antarctic because they believe it doesn't exist. However chile has long days.

Those 2 things I've never seen a flerf able to come back to why.

What is Digital north? When you are using the GPS is North True North, or Magnetic North?

Just curious. I haven't used a compass in forever, but the GPS system tells me what Direction North is everyday in my car and on my phone. It was probably about 15 years ago when I was Scuba Diving that I had to use an actual compass. I don't know if GPS works underwater.

I wonder if planes and boats still use magnetic north compasses?

I am not familiar with Digital North (did I post this by accident)

On a GPS north is true north the gps doesn’t use magnets it uses 3 satellites and trilateration

Water breaks down the radio waves gps needs to operate

I haven’t flown in a while but I suspect all planes still have the basic instrument requirements including a compass although higher forms of technology for all the basic systems is probably used 99.9+% of the time

The reason for this is if your fancy stuff fails, needs rebooted, screen goes dead etc. the old fashioned basic stuff will still tell you which direction you are heading, do you have fuel, enough speed, altitude and are you going up or down all very important

Where did you do your scuba diving

No that was just me coming up with a name for GPS North on a Digital Phone.

I dive mostly in the Florida Keys areas and I am hoping to retire there someday. Not much diving here in Colorado.

If you ever find Polaris you can fairly accurately tell the time by looking at the Big Dipper and how it points to Polaris

It’s a 24 hour clock and you adjust for the days and months from Midnight on March 6

You could probably also look at your phone

Never thought about that. But you're right.

I was looking for Polaris at 4:30 AM Jan. 26th, too see the green comment with my naked eye. With living in the country I thought I would, since I could see the red comet a few years ago. However I did not.

@Brice I second Cozumel. I stayed at playa for 2 weeks on my honey moon 2009. All that negative talk doesn't scare me. My wife and I freely walked around. A person who took pictures of the snorkel event and I swam for 3 miles back to shore, while everyone else took the boat. I know broken Spanish. He over heard I was looking at cenotes and said he had one in his back yard. I took the gamble, simply because it's probably safer there than it is MLK in Atlanta..... upon entering the cenote he mentioned if you hear a splash, don't move and pray, because jaguars are known for sleeping in there. (We also did scuba at cozumel).

Homeless people try to do work and don't ask for money. One put cardboard on my window to keep it from getting so hot and I had to chase him down and force him to take the money.

And now for a funny story...... when I left I was pulled over by a cop. We could not understand each other at all. All I understood is I had to follow him to the jail and then I could pay. Due to about to miss the flight I asked a couple times why I could not just give it to him...... he mentioned $300 is all i had to pay at the jail. So I pulled out $300 (usa) and said why can I not just pay you. And was slamming the money in my hand. The cop opens his book, slides it on top of my hand, and as I slam again the $300, he closed the book. he walked off fast, got in his car and left..... I'm sitting there looking at my wife saying, wait do I follow or not. And she is laughing saying, "dude you just paid off a cop with $300 USA and they were only wanting pesos.

    That’s great

Not quite as exciting but when diving in Mexico if we have a dive master we like we make a deal with him if he picks us up at our hotel after we clean up and takes us to where he goes to drink we will buy all of his beer

Nobody in Mexico is getting rich but a dive master has a steady job and usually a car with dusty shag carpeting on the dashboard and possibly the ceiling

Now he takes us to places we would never consider going on our own for obvious reasons but when we walk in with him it’s like walking into Cheers with Norm and everybody wants to be our friend

Without going into detail I have a friend who tells people I’m the only person he knows who could get him out of a Mexican prison
