Both of these guys have the size the Steelers need at DL.

Did 22 reps of 325. Combine only does reps of 225. Think about that.
To put that into perspective, at the 2022 combine, 2 defensive lineman did more reps than that.

ika is so slow. big but slow. casey when he got here was quick inside which is what made him dangerous. i like smith much better. i'm not overly excited about this years crop of interior defensive linemen in this draft. at least early on. not sure where smith may fall to.

He's probably off the Steelers radar now, unfortunately.

the kid screwed up. it's not a huge deal. it's michigan and the governor hates guns. it wasn't loaded, he didn't lie about it. he just didn't have it properly secured. i don't think this is going to be a huge deal for him.

We'll see....Maybe the Khan regime will take more chances with players with potential character issues.

Ability wise, what's not to love? He's a beast, for sure.

I know a lot of people want to take Ika at 32, but he's a two down tackle that needs to be rested regularly. He's going to fall, probably to the third round. Smith is currently about 100, give or take, but he's going to rise, especially after the combine.

Don't know if that was at 225 or 325, but Moats said his usual work out was 4 rep sets at 405 when he was 37.

I wouldn't take him at #32, with the Steelers using their sub packages he would only play about 35% of the snaps.

Definitely a bad year to be needing to replace half of our DL rotation (Wormley, Alualu, and Ogunjob). Best case is to re-sign Ogunjobi, sign a cheap DL and draft someone.

get loudermilk back healthy, sign ogunjobi, leal, cam, adams, wren and maybe a draft pick like smith and we could be in pretty good shape.:cool:

Depends a lot on 17 and 33. I see him in a lot of rankings around 90-100, then I see other ones where he's mid 30's. A lot is going to depend on the combine, where a lot will come out.

Defensive lineman in the modern NFL need to be athletic and quick, it’s less about size now.

Offensive linemen are getting bigger, stronger, and quicker. If you're looking for a run stopper, then you need someone with those same attributes. Someone with the size and strength to take on two 300+ pound offensive linemen. Big Snack always took two blockers. That's why our linebackers could control the line of scrimmage.

Hampton was drafted over 20 years ago. A lot has changed since then. The league is about strength, speed, and quickness even in the trenches. Size is important but I’m talking more height than girth. Big doesn’t mean strong.

There are tall, more lean guys in the league now that are just as strong if not stronger than Hampton was but are also quicker and faster.

350 pound nose tackles are no longer the norm.

people seem to forget that hampton got here around 320-325. he was quick off the snap in the first few years. that is what made him so dangerous. the longer he was here the bigger he got. speed kills. the way of the base 3-4 is going away from where it was 20 years ago. i agree with what you are saying. big fast strong can get the job done. quick is quite dangerous on the interior.

Man would taking a pure NT be a colossal waste. We didn’t struggle at times against the run bc our interior line was getting blown out. It’s because our linebackers struggled to read/react/get off blocks. Jack was fine but Bush and Spillane just aren’t gonna cut it. If we can get a really good ILB (whether that’s in FA or the draft), it will be 10x more productive for our run stopping ability than grabbing a pure NT.

we can get by with a solid enough vet FA at that position to share snaps with Adams. What we really need is to make sure we are set at the DT/DE position instead. Right now it’s Heyward, Leal, and Loudermilk. We need to either retain Ogunjobi, or sign/draft someone else we like better. Don’t want to be too thin there.

I totally Agreed, but We don't play the 3-4 scheme the same way We did, and also We are in sub packages a lot.

Spillane was more than fine. Frankly, I thought he was our best Linebacker
