It was like the Jaqs game, the Jaqs seemly kept trying to run the ball and then had to throw to get a first on 3rd down. They opened up in 4th, but in their case, their defense couldn't stop the Chiefs from scoring like the Steelers D did.

Need to dig deep for optimism about this offense. Really though possession offense works OK against lesser competition but you need to have some dynamic offense to compete against the top teams. Too hard to prevent them from scoring and too hard to consistently have long drives without a negative play.

Don't need to dig deep. We finished the season 7-2. KFP threw one interception during that period. Our running game improved immensely in the second half of the year. We have the youngest offense in the NFL.
We lost our best defensive player for 7 games at the beginning of the season, threw a rookie qb to the wolves, and started 2-6. There is reason for optimism. A good draft and decent free agency and we'll see where we are in KFP year two.

I get what you are saying but they were 1-2 against playoff teams, with the win against a backup QB. My fear is that KP is held back from progressing by an incompetent scheme. So we waste another year before moving on. Last year it was Ben is too old and immobile for the scheme. This year it is too young. I'd like to be wrong. Maybe they supplement offensive staff with a passing guru but I am not optimistic about that either.

First - its off season conversation pal. It's an interesting take. Its not that deep of a dive. It is actually some pretty insightful stats. Second - is 7-2 shallow enough for you? Winning is the most important thing. 7-2 is pretty dayum Good. I don't understand you guys who just jump on sarcastic and negative comments about the team no matter what is said.

FWIW, i'm very optimistic about the players on the offensive side. Going into the last season, the biggest issue to me was the OL, but they did much better than expectations and seem to be getting better. Only disappointment was 18... in addition to dropping passes and not getting his feet in bounds, he led the league in "yards lost after catch".

Players should be much better going into next season... can't say the same thing about the coaching staff unfortunately.

Well, we are seeing what the top of the AFCN looks like right now...so the Steelers have some ground to make up. I'm optimistic about a wild card playoff spot.

I think wild card playoff spot is in the bag... :)

I hate to say it, but I'm pretty impressed with Cinci these days... They're no longer pulling a "Marvin Lewis" every other game.

I was thinking about this when I saw the Pts per game for the Bills and 'Gals earlier today, I think 28 and 26. I know our 2nd half teams were mostly it non winning records, but damn if we could 3 tds and a FG per game thats 24, add a FG and we are right there lol. I guess to dream is nice,

They beat the Bengals, Ravens and Tampa. Lost to the Bills, Eagles, and Miami sans Watt, Ravens sans Pickett, Bengals at full strength. So 3-5 total. Lots of injuries for us during the 2-6 start.

They have to think that the scheme fits Pickett's strengths. What works for him will be different than what works for Brady, Allen, or Mahomets, etc. Seeing if Canada can get more out of him next year isn't the worst idea. I don't love the playcalling, but if he can get us to 24ish ppg and we are top 5 in ToP... then we are in pretty good shape. Gonna be hard to beat us if that's the case. Our biggest hurdle will be scoring with the good teams. Hard to stop the top teams from scoring points, so we have to be able to get to 30 when we need it.

I want to see a new Practice Drill called 3 Shots. Put the ball on the 10-yard line and try to score a TD.

I don't know why we couldn't score TDs inside the 10 last year. 1st and goal just never seemed to work for this offense.

Is a common drill in High School and College ..It's called 10 and IN....You get 4 downs though just like normal if you got a 1st . and Goal ..Loser takes the stadium steps .. We found it great Motivation for both lines as those big guys hate that extra condition work...

We were also 12-4 and we still weren't good enough. It was all smoke and mirrors, remember? we fired that guy. I guess we keep firing them until we win the super bowl. Well until we don't.
