Stewert played his rookie year with O'Donnell. I don't think it had any effect on the organization trying to retain him. He threw 7 passes all year.

Not sure on this but didn't Kordell tell Cowher he is a QB first and foremost?? I don't think he liked the role of "slash" but I thought it would have worked well for the Steelers.

Kordell had his best years with Chan Gailey, then he never meshed well with another coordinator.

Still think in today's NFL Kordell be a 1st round pick.....

He was a gifted athlete for sure.

Letting NOD walk when he had at the time the second best completion percentage in NFL history and trying to turn Slash into a NFL level QB was a mistake. They should have tried to resign ODummy and told Korkie that his "Slash" role would be as far as he goes as a Steeler. Cowher really had his hands in this change and it really amounted to nothing. Didn't win a SB until HOF QB Ben Roethlisberger did it.

I remember Kordell's dad being glad his son got out of the "hellhole" that was Pittsburgh. Don't believe Kordell had much success anywhere else

I wonder how much Kordell’s view is jaded by his need to justify not playing well as a QB. Everyone wants to blame someone else.

I still hate this loss: https://www.denverbroncos.com/news/...afc-championship-win-over-the-steelers-on-the

After one particularly frustrating bad throw, Denver linebacker Bill Romanowski slowly walked up to Stewart and taunted him — this was legal then — with a slap to Romo's own helmet as if to say some sort of "Man, am I stupid" comment.

People act like Kordell didnt lead the team to a 12-4 record and championship game.

He had his faults but has never been as bad as some fans make him out to be.

He was a very exciting player but he was never going to take us to the promise land solely as a QB. I doubted that all along.

you can say that now, but changing offenses every year didn’t help anyone and it sure as hell hurt the development of a young qb

6 OC’s in 8 years for Kordell? Ray Sherman? And yet we like to look back at the Cowher years as a model of consistency.
I loved Cowher but there are lots and lots of rose colored glasses comparing his tenure to Tomlin. To me they are both great coaches and the Steelers were/are smart with their head coach hires.

I could see from the very beginning that Kordell would not lead us to a SB title ever. I had hope that he would but had my serious doubts. Ben Roethlisberger had 5 OC's and led us to 3 SB's while winning 2 of them.

Ben wasnt being saddled with new OC’s as a rookie though, the most important stage of their development.

They were one game away from a SB with Kordell, did you think they’d even get to a championship game with him?

If they had committed to him, shown confidence in him and built a game plan around him, he absolutely could have led them to a SB. Lesser QB’s have done it. If he never came close to a SB I might be inclined to agree with you but he got pretty damn close.

You’re so full of it your eyes are brown. The they’ll never make it to a super bowl with x,y,z is comical. Again almost 1/3 of the league hasn’t won a super bowl.

Kordell was terrible in big games. He had 2 TD passes and 8 picks while completing only 48% of his passes in his playoff career. He could take off and run though and was a good receiver.

4 OCs in 6 years is insane. Hard to build any sustained success with that kind of turnover.

Actually I have hazel eyes and they saw fully that Kordell wasn't going to win us a Super Bowl. Had the same feeling about Bubby Brister.
