Well....I liked the way we played with Pouncy at LG and Legs at C so maybe this is not horrible news for our team.

    Enter Decastro??????

I'm mostly shocked that Colon made it to week 14 with out having his season end.

When do we finally get to rid ourselves of his 6 mill a year contract? Seems like he's getting paid to do nothing. and that's when he in the game...Hahahah!!

I thought he was having an ok season this year too. Very disappointing that he is injured again. 3 strikes and your out in my book. Time to cut ties with him.

Like the post two above me, even though I didn't necessarily want him back this year, I thought he was finally doing ok. I also thought moving to guard would keep him from getting hurt. Strike one, strike two, strike three you're out. So much for all the move Colon to guard posts from the last few years.

I liked the way they played last week, there wasn't anything good about yesterdays game but I'm not a film guy, maybe you or someone who watches that stuff can comment on Legs and Pounceys individual performance yesterday? I may just be lumping them into the whole pile of dung, don't know.

Yeah, that will be interesting for sure. I can't imagine they do it before June 1st, eating an almost 6.5 mil hit up front in dead money.

just a couple of semi-connected thoughts-

Colon was a starter on the 2008 OL, still in my mind the worst offensive line to win a Super Bowl.
He could be a maddening player, capable of great games and awful ones.
Ramon Foster, who never gets any credit for anything, has quietly been the team's most durable lineman. I'd rather keep him than Colon next season.
Sooner than later- I predict by the end of the regular season- DeCastro moves into the starting lineup.

    :this!:....THIS

cutting him only saves a little over 1 mill with the dead money for 2013...but I think it adds about 7 mill to 2014 (something like that...I just read it recently)

    HACK

    EDIT:
Colon has a base salary of 5.5 mill in 2013 with a cap hit of 7.65...If cut prior to June first...all 6.45 of money left comes forward as dead money. Saving only 1.2 mill in 2013.
If released after June then its the original prorated 2.15 with 4.3 dead money in 2014...saving 5.5 mill but costing them the dead money in 2014

Disagree - we make 2 positions weaker by moving Pouncey to guard. Moving Decastro to guard we are bettter at both.Legsis a backup center

I guess I am one of the few who liked the play of Colon this year. I thought guard was a better position for him, and I thought he was playing well there. I think his loss is significant for this team--a team that has struggled to run the ball consistently all year (currently ranked 25th). As pathetic as the run offense has been, I think he was one of the major reasons that it wasn't worse.

I don't think Pouncey at guard is the answer. However...I'm not sure what the answer is. I don't like Legursky at guard and if DeCastro can't go due to his health.......ick....things aren't looking too good right now.

for me it is not his play as much as it is his ability to stay on the field .... he has not played a 16 game season since 2009 ..out for the rest of the season means he will have 12 starts in the last potential 48 so 75% of the time he is on IR instead of the football field ...we can no longer continue to pay these men this kind of money to not provide assistance to your football team on a weekly basis I have yet to see a guy who is on IR win a football game for this team , guys on IR do not block for the RBs , they do not provide protection to the QB but they get paid more money in 1 season than you and I will make in a lifetime combined ...... enough is enough

the tv contract should take hold and raise the cap in 2014. i would cut him after june 1 and take the smaller hit next year and the bigger hit when we have more to play with. one way or another he needs gone.

after what i witnessed SD do with 3 brand spanking new linemen that didn't have big guts hanging on the front of them, and shut down our pass rush, i am glad we are getting a new o-line coach too. it is possible to have a new line be a good line.

the slow fat lumbering linemen we have in starks , colon, gilbert and even foster need to be replaced if we are ever going to see this offense preform up to the standard they should. these guys are not good players and i think we have gotten so used to bad play that any improvement is deemed as good play. well it's not. i've been preaching this for several years now. it's the players we put out there.

did anyone get a glimps of max and colon waddling onto the field at change of possession last night? they both look like they need wide load signs attached to their azzes. max has fallen right back into what he has always done and balloon up during the season. he was fit when he signed. i said it then, that i hope he stays that way but i wasen't counting on it. sure enough big and sloth like again before the season is over and colon has blossomed with him. way to slow to play at a high standard in this league. it just kills our offense.

No surprise Colon is always hurt and when he plays he gets too many penalties.

    This.

3-4 less penalties per game, I'd reckon.
