Looks like Pickett’s Rookie Season really isn’t that bad compared to all the other AFC quarterbacks rookie season.

Here is each Quarterbacks Rookie Season Record and Winning Percentage and when drafted.

    Patrick Mahomes 12-4 (75%) 10th Pick in 1st Round
    Tua Tagavailoa 7-3 (70%) 5th Pick in 1st Round
    Russell Wilson 11-5 (69%) 75th Pick in 3rd Round
    Matt Ryan 11-5 (69%) 3rd Pick in 1st Round
    Lamar Jackson 10-6 (63%) 32nd Pick in 1st Round
    Mac Jones 10-7 (59%) 15th Pick in 1st Round
    Kenny Pickett 7-6 (54%) 20th Pick in 1st Round
    Ryan Tannahill 7-9 (44%) 8th Pick in 1st Round
    Deshaun Watson 3-4 (43%) 12th Pick in 1st Round
    Josh Allen 5-7 (42%) 7th Pick of 1st Round
    Justin Herbert 6-9 (40%) 6th Pick of 1st Round
    Zack Wilson 3-10 (23%) 2nd Pick of 1st Round
    Joe Burrow 2-7-1 (20%) 1st Pick of 1st Round
    Derek Carr 3-13 (19%) 36th Pick of 2nd Round
    Trevor Lawrence 3-14 (18%) 1st Pick of 1st Round
    Davis Mills 2-11 (15%) 67th Pick of 3rd Round

I'm not really trying to point out anything specific, Just wanted to compare Kenny to the other QB's in the AFC.

IMO, I think that the future looks bright.

Patrick Mahomes only played in 1 game his rookie season. 284 yards 0 Tds and 1 Int

I will tell you what, the Russell Wilson pick is just crazy. 3rd round pick who started all 16 games of his rookie season and went 11-5. How did everyone at the draft miss him?

Funny story on Mel Kiper and Russell Wilson
Mel Kiper was one of the unfortunate experts who showed a glaring lack of expertise in his evaluation of the undersized signal-caller. He compared him to fellow sub-six-foot quarterback Seneca Wallace and believed he belonged in the fourth round.

He’s been right a lot, too but that’s funny.

KP could go either way but he definitely has some clutch in him and that is important no doubt. Another year of being handcuffed by that dope Canada will hurt his growth however.

Just saying he shouldn't be on your list. He was able to sit behind Alex Smith for an entire year and learn his NFL Playbook and watch NFL defenses. Huge advantage.

And why in the world did you leave off the #1 Rookie season of all time; 13-0 Big Ben. There is not a bigger measuring stick than the greatest Rookie QB of all time.

I left him off because he was not the starting qb this past season

I totally understand what you are saying, he is on the list because I wanted to include all starters for this season.

Where did you get these Rookie season stats from?
Mahommes didn't even start his rookie season
    Jackson was 6-1 not 10-6

Thanks for the list. The measuring stick should be their second seasons. Then we would know what Pickett has to do to be a difference maker.

KP should only get better just based upon how his game got better in the 2nd half of the season.

I dont get excited about the won/loss, or other stats. It is the experience, growth, and overall projection of his game and the team he is playing on. Next season he will come into camp as the Nr 1, hopefully done his work in the off season and we will see if he can elevate his game further, or at least if indeed the ceiling is low, spread his game out and lead teams to successful drives.

He does this I think the team can easily move up the ranks from lower O statistics to the very least 12 to 15 range. Could go higher, but needs to take that step to start becoming a legitimate threat.

while I agree that Canada is a hindrance to his development, KP has already shown to improve even in his joke of a system.

Judging quarterbacks entirely by their teams' win-loss record when they start is bad enough, but getting those numbers wrong for many of the quarterbacks on the list makes it even less useful.

Joe Burrow had the worst winning percentage on that list, but he showed more as a rookie than most of those guys, including Pickett. That's not a knock on Pickett. Burrow was damn impressive on a horrible team.

I like what Pickett did as a rookie. I see great promise. In the case of Burrow, however, I was absolutely certain the Bengals had found their guy. My only hope was that they would be stupid and/or cheap enough not to keep him his entire career.

Here are the second year numbers for 12 AFC QBs.

Player (2nd Yr.) W-L Com Att Pct Yards Tds TD% INT Int% Rating

    Patrick Mahomes 12-4-0 383 580 66.0 5097 50 8.6 12 2.1 113.8
    Tua Tagavailoa 7-5-0 263 388 67.8 2653 16 4.1 10 2.6 90.1
    Russell Wilson 13-3-0 257 407 63.1 3357 26 6.4 9 2.2 101.2
    Matt Ryan 9-5-0 263 451 58.3 2916 22 4.9 14 3.1 80.9
    Lamar Jackson 13-2-0 265 401 66.1 3127 36 9.0 6 1.5 113.3
    Mac Jones 6-8-0 288 442 65.2 2997 14 3.2 11 2.5 84.8
    Ryan Tannehill 8-8-0 355 588 60.4 3913 24 4.1 17 2.9 81.7
    Deshaun Watson 11-5-0 345 505 68.3 4165 26 5.1 9 1.8 103.1
    Josh Allen 10-6-0 271 461 58.8 3089 20 4.3 9 2.0 85.3
    Justin Herbert 9-8-0 443 672 65.9 5014 38 5.7 15 2.2 97.7
    Joe Burrow 10-6-0 366 520 70.4 4611 34 6.5 14 2.7 108.3
    Trevor Lawrence 9-8-0 387 584 66.3 4113 25 4.3 8 1.4 95.2

I removed Derek Carr, Zach Wilson, and Davis Mills. These stats do not include the running abilities of the QBs. Averages are 9.75 wins, 3754 Yards, 27.5 TDs, 11 Ints. I could see the Steelers win 10 games with Pickett next year. I could see him throwing for about 3700 yards, because the team was close to that this year. I do not see him throwing for 27-28 TDs if Canada is the OC. And I could see him control his INTs to about 10.

Where does this leave Pickett? I do not see him as elite like Mahomes, Wilson, Jackson, Watson, Burrow second year production. I do not see the ceiling for a Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence type player. I can see a Matt Ryan type career, and since the Steelers are a better run organization than Atlanta. I could see Pickett having a better career than Ryan, which means the Steelers may reach a Super Bowl with Pickett, but competing against Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Burrow, and Lawrence and their teams will be challenging. The Steelers have work to do to build a supporting cast (players and coaches) around Pickett for him to become elite.

I was doing this just for something to do to see how Pickett looked compared to the others in the wins and losses. Because in the end of the season that’s all that matters. We all know Burrow’s story (I’ve known it since he was in Buddy League, my boys played against him all the way up through high school)

I can’t even remember which website I got them from, but if these stats are wrong, then they got them wrong.

I’m not a believer in ONE guy decides a teams fate, it takes a TEAM.

Most glaring being that of Josh Allen and Joe Burrow. I never thought for one minute Kenny the cube would not be the Steelers franchise QB. Love this guy

I honestly think that it isn’t only skill based, but I’m a believer in system qb’s. Look at the spectacular play calling Purdy has had.

Purdy would not be like that with our offense.
