You know I remember hearing that rumor of how Russ Grimm was named the Head Coach of the Steelers, then the NFL threatened to rename the Rooney Rule, and then Mike Tomlin was hired the next day.

I never knew if that was fact or fiction.

From what I recall is was a communication error. Something about the weekend, the team had to let Russ know he was not selected, but they did not want to make an official announcement on Tomlin until Monday...some sort of crap like that. The media got mis-wind of something and Russ thought he had the job. The had to scramble to make it right and there were hurt feelings along the way.

He met up with Dorothy, tin man, scare crow and the cowardly lion and they are taking him to Oz to get some hands, a brain, and a compass that always points upfield.

That's very generous, but depending on how you figure it, more like only 0.25 (2/8) to 0.33 (2/7). But who's counting, except nerds like me? OK back to my Heath Kit Nuclear Reactor Model. :lolol:

Correction: Sorry Hanratty, my bad, I didn't catch that he had two 2 pt conversion catches so yes that would be 0.667 TDs. My abacus needs a system update or maybe a lube job. :drinks:

Was just going to say that.

And he still has his pic up on twitter of him in a Steelers jersey.

I’d be surprised if they are trading him.

He has his flaws, but they can't trade him. They need him.
Having only 1 good WR for your rookie QB to throw to is a recipe for disaster

No way they move DJ now. Obviously if a deal comes that they think benefits the team they would probably move almost anyone, but no way anything has been done this early in the off season.

I was growing frustrated with him at the end of the season, more from the mental lapses than drops, I think he is still among the fewest drops in the league but when I thought he might be on his way out I was hoping that wasn’t the case.

The guy has skills many receivers don’t. Just needs to focus and someone give him the same pep talk that Harris got, just head up field, stop thinking so much.

Did Grimm actually believe that he got the job? I don't remember that part. I just remember Prisuta wrote that he was getting it (and his editors ran with it, likely with full knowledge of Prisuta's source.)

So much of his game is sloppy. He runs great routes, but he still has drops and fumbles and gets caught too often running the wrong way. Johnson also has problems with sideline and end line catches. He either fails to get his feet in bounds when he has room or drops the ball. I agree with you. It is a lack of focus, though fixing that may not be such an easy thing.

I was told winning pointless games was going to have our roster in glee this offseason. Suppose to be great for team morale blah blah blah.

I've stayed steadfast that when he becomes the #2 and Pickens the #1...his issues become less of an negative for this offense. He's an excellent number two. Not reliable enough to be the #1. Doesn't mean he won't drop a ball or run backwards when he shouldn't. But if the pecking order is correct, he'd have fewer opportunities for such nonsense to impact the offense.

This has been going on for a while now so you’re probably right about that. I don’t know how they get him past the mental stuff.

probably not what they had in mind with 50/50 balls. does he catch it? does he drop it? does he run forward? does he run backwards? does he fumble? does he hold on to it? :smiley1::cool:

I think he's about to announce that he scored a TD in the Madden 2022 video game. It's currently under review though to make sure it's not for the other team.

Im sure he has plenty of drops in the game which are not counted as drops just like this past season. Only 7 drops....sure

I'm critical of DJs play at times. I think he was playing too hard and not relaxed enough. Precisely why he ran backwards or lateral. He wanted to make a play that wasn't there. Frankly I think he's playing out of position 90% of the time. He's just ideal as a slot receiver and in today's game he can be a #1 or #2 from the slot, in the right offense.

This whole drama i think was a bit unfair to DJ. It's unfortunately the world of social media today. One idiot sees something and takes a SS and passes it along, and bam we have manufactured drama that's nonexistent in the real world
