Don't mess with the money train. That's priority number one! The coaches made the right choice. Goes to show the players are secondary to the mighty dollar. Goodell is a POS and the owners love him.

Every single person on this planet is secondary to the mighty dollar....outside of most people's friends, and family. ....Look around the whole world. We War for natural resources, a man can work for a company His whole life, and get hurt, and the insurance company will spend more money trying not to pay Him then they actually would have to pay......There are over 2700 billionaires in this world ....yet children die of starvation world wide. I could do this all day. It's sad , but it's been this way for a very long time....in everything....everywhere.

It seems like you are too busy defending the league to see the situation objectively. Joe Buck said the report of five minutes to get ready to play came from someone who was in direct contact with the league office.

    https://nypost.com/2023/01/03/damar-hamlin-collapse-kind-of-a-blur-for-shocked-joe-buck/

I'm going out of my way to give credit to people who I believe got it right last night. That includes both coaches, who seemed to be making the right decisions. That includes people in the media such as Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Lisa Salter, Scott Van Pelt, and Ryan Clark.

NFL EVP Troy Vincent says the NFL never informed the teams they had five minutes to warm up to resume play. That never crossed their minds and he doesn't know where that came from.

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...nce-he-was-12-this-is-a-personal-thing-to-me/

Mike Tomlin said he has known Hamlin since the latter played youth football in Pittsburgh.

“I’ll say this about Damar Hamlin: It’s a really personal thing to me, being a Pittsburgher and that young man being a Pittsburgher, I’ve known that guy probably since he was about 12,” Tomlin said. “I’ve just got a lot of respect and love for him as a human being, his commitment to the pursuit of his goals and dreams of doing what he is right now, which is playing in the NFL. To watch him make personal decisions, and make that a realization, it’s just an honor to get to know young people like that.

“I’ve had an opportunity to express that to him whenever I see him. We’ve played Buffalo each of the last two seasons and he and I had a moment because it’s just cool to not only appreciate these guys in terms of where they are now but to know them since they were younger people and to watch their maturation, their development, to watch them earn what they’ve been chasing, it’s really a cool thing, and he’s an example of that. I’ve got a lot of love for that young man. I’ve lifted him and that organization up in prayer. I’ve reached out to Sean McDermott to lend whatever assistance I could. But I don’t have a lot to add other than that. I just respect the fact that you guys appreciate how personal it is for me, not only for me, but for all of us.”

Yes, that statement came out last night. Just because he doesn't know where it came from doesn't mean it didn't come from someone else in the NFL office. I'm sure the league will get everybody to fall in line and play nice now, but it certainly seems as if someone in the league's employ made the wrong call last night.

To be clear, I have no problem with them taking an hour to make the right decision. I do think they tried to follow the same playbook they used when there were catastrophic injuries during games in the past, such as when Ryan Shazier suffered his injury, and that clearly didn't work.

I'm not sure I fully trust ESPN, but I absolutely don't trust the NFL. I'm going to err on the side of the NFL being full of crap on this one.

According to Mrs. Quadrupleyoi, who worked as an ICU nurse for several decades, at some point soon they will bring him out of the chemically induced coma. Until then, it can’t be known if he suffered brain damage, and if so, to what degree. It looks like the initial response was very quick and a defibrillator was used by some accounts, so they figured out what was going on pretty rapidly and treated it the best they could.
It was correct to suspend the game. No one’s head or heart could possibly be in it.

Could it be that the league officials on site have a routine protocol with regards to severe injuries and simply moved forward with the 5 minute warm up time to keep things moving, knowing that the league office would ultimately have to step in? Judging from the severity of the situation, I just can't see the league trying to shoo everyone off the field in order to start the game again. I'm probably just being naive though, I suppose.

This sounds like a pretty logical explanation. And that’s kind of where I was headed with wanting to know who are they considering the game officials. Is that the referees? Or is there some other person there that handles league responsibilities?

In an interesting side point not related to the game last night, I had the TV on NBC yesterday thinking the Winter Classic should be starting at 1( I didn't know NBC didn't carry it this year) and the wife walked in during a news piece on a Sober Section and station that the Packers now have for those fans who want to enjoy football without drinking. She thought it was a great idea and watched the whole peice. I said I thought it was a great idea too but while the social outreach director for the NFL touted the program I told the wife it will only go so far because the NFL and owners know where the money comes from. She said I was jaded which is true but I'm not wrong. Public face of football will always be put our best foot forward while taking cash behind the back.

I’d imagine people sitting in the sober section weren’t buying alcohol, regardless of where they’re sitting at. Not sure how this would impact any possible alcohol sales.

This actually isn't a new thing. Many teams and stadiums have had designated "family sections" for years. I went to a Steelers game in Cleveland 15 years ago and sat in an alcohol free family section. There were a couple of designated family sections in the corner of the upper level actually. It was a nice experience while we were in our seats. Not so nice walking around the stadium. And the very next section over (with alcohol) there were fights breaking out every quarter. Not a single incident in the alcohol free sections. Funny how that works.

I’m a firm believer in it’s your money to do with it what you want. (as long as it’s legal of course.)

That's flat out wrong. I'm a blue collar worker and have worked in some dangerous places and I f**king guarantee you that if something like this was to happen to a co-worker around me, I'm done for the day at the very least. Our company would shut the doors at least for the day. It has happened in our trade to guys in our company and those involved took quite some time to come to grips with the fact that a guy almost died right next to them. It could happen to any one of us.

I don't think so much sales as it would the money paid in sponsorship. It's like having a wine tasting or craft beer night to be fundraiser for AA

Companies may not shut their doors but that doesn't mean their workers won't need the time away. What's to say the Bills players/coaches didn't walk into that locker room and flat out refuse to continue with the game? Nothing the NFL could do about that.

I had a coworker have a similar experience to last night. He collapsed at his station, heart was fluctuating turning blue. Emt team and actual paramedics got him out of the building and air lifted to a bigger hospital. We had a higher up pull the whole department into a stairwell and in a moment where he could show real leadership, he warned us not to post anything on social media. He was more concerned about the company's reputation than our coworker and insulted us to boot. Two hours later we had a meeting in HR where they passed out information about grief and crisis counseling and made sure ppl were ok. I hung back after everyone left and told them how offend I was that this tool thought we were so callous that we'd post on Facebook. I was told he probably didn't mean it that way. I replied I'm sorry you think that but I know he did and left it at that. Management sometimes good some times bad.
