I think the real question here is, why did we pass on Jalen Hurts?

this. this goes to my Tomlin / Colbert and co. not clearly seeing the years upcoming. No big plan, no master architect at the helm. Ben was getting older FAST every day after 2019. His arm was re-attached, that should have been the end of his career, or at least the FO should have been on RED ALERT. and Hurts is there in 2020. We drafted Claypool. He was picked at 49 anbd Hurts at 53. We blew it. (I think i have all those ducks in a row ....)

they were building Ben an ARSENAL.....and he was getting older, slower and weaker every day.....

that is bad management, plain and simple. They delayed ripping off the band-aid as long as possible.

Hindsight is of course, 20-20. 30 other teams passed on Hurts, with about 10 or so in need of him, as we see how......

Or they had a plan and the failure was not recognizing the potential in Hurts, something most of the league got wrong.

The only good thing about the Claypool pick is the draft pick they got for him. Taking him over Hurts, Dobbins, A.J. Dillon, and Trevon Diggs was definitely a mistake. And yes, that is all hindsight. Hell, most people thought Hurts was a bust as recently as last season.

    Quite.

We shouldn’t also overlook that Ben was pretty good that first half of the 2020 season. It was after some bad hits in Dallas that his game dropped right off.

for sure on the draft pick, it will be nice getting around 15, then 35 (DA BEARS...) , then 47 or so....

Bust for Hurts is a strong word. He was on a LOUSY team, when I watched him, i thought (as with Pickett) , give him some time and talent and let's see.....

I assume at the time, they considered Mason Rudolph their future, and in 2019 leading into the 2020 draft, Mason threw over 1700 yards and 13 TDs, but I do not know what changed except that Matt Canada arrived in 2020 and the Steelers picked Pickett in 2022.

Wow how some jump on the bandwagon so quickly. This is Why I don't judge Qbs so quickly. One good year means nothing....Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson, Carson Wentz, Mark Sanchez and Marcus Mariota....should I go on....of course there are people commenting on here that if I bring up later about how they thought Hurts was all that....they will hide behind....prove it......prove it:cry:.
LoL. Let Him at least play every team in the NFL more than once before You declare the Guy great. LoL.

Agreed. They did hang on to him too long, the same mistake Noll made with Bradshaw in the '80s, but he was good in 2020 until his knees failed him. Once that happened, it seemed like his mechanics were all over the place. He just couldn't get a consistent, steady base with his legs and that affected many of his throws, especially down the field.

Hurts wasn't that good of a passer coming out of college, he has improved a lot in that area.

I don't think Hurts would been good with us because of Matt Canada.Of course he is not alone, since Canada is that bad

Says it all. So glad Steelers drafted Pickett. There are a few morons here who wanted Steelers to draft Willis over Pickett. I will not say any names.

I have given Pickett a lot of crap but I have faith in him because of his ability to fight back and overcome.

He's a Dak/Cousins caliber QB so far...with hints of Rodgers/Burrow for ceiling. Time will tell. Get the talent around him on OL. Steelers did well with RB, WR and TE.

I've defended Pickett quite a bit and I think the people who keep talking about him already being at his ceiling are speaking out of the wrong end of their anatomy, but even I don't think he has Rodgers upside. He just doesn't have that sort of arm talent. I do think Burrow is the upside for Pickett, but a smarter version of Cousins is probably more likely. I'd sign up for 10-15 years of either of those right now.

Or, why did we pass on Tom Brady? :)

Hey if you are going to build a time machine are you really going to go back in time and have the Steelers Draft Jalen Hurts, or are you going back in time and having the Steelers draft Tom Brady in the 5th round?

You and sports media act like Rodgers is so great. My eye test tells me he's a really good QB, but he is a mere mortal like Roethlisberger and Eli Manning.

I have to agree. While I think Rodgers is , or was really good....when people would say the greatest they ever seen I'd be like ......what???
There is not one thing Ive seen Him do that I haven't seen Ben, or Elway do....except His HM at the end of games, or Halfs, and those are mainly luck.

The Titans chose to start Dobbs, who's been on the roster for 10 minutes, instead of Malik Willis. I think that says alot about Willis.
