A few weeks back I had some time and watched the All 22 of some games. I definitely experienced the Groundhog Day effect more than once, particularly with route combinations. I recall that after our loss to the Ravens, Patrick Queen talked about the 2nd interception and said that he dropped to where he expected the ball to be thrown because in film study we nearly always had Freiermuth run the same route from that specific formation.

For me it’s a “no.” If we’re concerned about Pickett having to deal with a new OC, just pull off the band aid now and get him a new playbook for offseason study.

Bienemy directly designed those shovel passes that KC runs so well , I forget when a player talked about that , but that's a good clue of his X and O ability ... He also shows the abilty to adapt game plans week to week and even a lot of in game adjustments as well .. He will probably get a HC gig though unless he is offered a high Salary and a future HC job..Like Mike T plans to retire in 2 seasons...

As far as Byron goes he started showing his chops as a College guy for Marshall , he was calling his own stuff while being carried down the field still a thing of beauty .. He was also above the line in the no huddle as a Steeler ... He also adapts from week to week and with in game adjustments .He also taght Brady the system and forced him to embrace the deep ball of off PA per many reports.. He may be a HC as well same thing as Eric unless a future HC gig is in play ...

That's why I think a lateral move with the this is going to be your Team approach ...It puts them in a better position to succeed as a HC and makes the transition much easier for all involved...Even if Coach T states he wants 5 more years that would be a great Investment for a young OC knowing they would get the gig and could keep it for 20 years without being hand cuffed by the Owners .. The Steelera are in a great spot to make such a offer a unique spot if you will..

If the Steelers win the next 2 games and finish with another winning season I believe that we will see very little forced changes. It wouldn't surprise me to see Canada back as OC next season should the Steelers go 9-8.

I know what you are saying, but I don't think of guaranteeing the HC job would be good in any circumstance.

Canada’s offense reminds me of getting used to a new Madden and only using the same five plays all the time.

Why ? My math says if you get the right OC who you probably would have hired as HC if the job was open why not get them in the system while they are available ? The Steelers have no one on staff who is HC capable , IMO we need to remedy that by all means available to do so .. IMO the timing is perfect a HC who may very well be ready to retire, a young QB and a OC who has no place on a NFL sideline...

Bieniemy replaced Matt Nagy as Chiefs OC when Nagy went to the Bears as HC and was fired. I think a lateral to the Steelers would make sense to run this offense before handing over the HC.

Negative. I feel he was told to scale down the tricks and go to a more conventional offense. He is not an NFL quality coordinator and has struggled in the college ranks as well.

But alas he is under contract for next season and the way the Steelers do business is to finish the contract players and coaches. Jeh did some research and although some coordinators were let go before the expiration of contract it's more not the norm.

Hopefully Tomlin or Art II release him and hire a plug and play.

Coordinators will still not be allowed to leave their team for another NFL coordinator position without seeking permission, so the 4 you mention are much more likely unless the others get fired or their contract expires (Bieniemy)

Not sold on Bieniemy....just like I wasn't sold on Nagy. Just like Nagy....everyone says Bieniemy is the OC, but when I watch a KC game I see Andy Reid with a big old play sheet, and talking into the microphone every offensive play. Which He doesn't do while the D is on the field because He's busy talking to Mahomes on the sidelines. So what exactly does Bieniemy do????

Well, he’s got a season of experience now.

    You gotta start somewhere.

I don't see any reason why Todd Haley couldn't' return.

And, I still think we will see Mike Munchak return once he is done cashing Denver Bronco paychecks off his couch this year.

I just don't think Kenny Pickett fits Matt Canada's motion offense.

Lateral moves are rare unless the new team gives a specific title like asst. HC, the contract is up, or the old team just moves on.

The only case for keeping Canada is to take the heat off of Tomlin.

I was thinking a case of strong IPA to get blackout drunk and think keeping him is a good idea.

a monkey, a dumb chimpanzee, a random number generator, “ask madden” button, let KP call plays.

of those surefire options, I’d go with the last one.

How does a player know who designed which play? There is a reason teams keep passing on Bienemy as a head coach. He is a product of Reid and Mahomes, just as Nagy was, and we saw how that worked out in Chicago.

I'm going to stick with Joe Brady as the most likely to take over until someone else actually gets the job. Bill O'Brien got a comfortable job with Alabama and don't see him taking another job unless it's a HC gig. Reich or Nagy seems like options worth looking into. Natheniel Hackett has Pittsburgh connections as his dad was a Pitt Panthers HC back in the day, so he could be a guy that could be interested, if it's open. I really don't see anyone making a lateral move. If Canada is kept, I want someone brought in to be the passing game coordinator and develop a much better passing tree and expand the playbook by a lot.

Fair question ..Maybe the play was designed or tweaked on the field ? Maybe the player was just taking up for Eric ? I cant remember where I read or heard it ... My personal view is I think he is a good OC and much better than what we have .. Maybe him being passed up as HC has nothing to do with his abilities as a OC ?

It probably doesn't matter as almost no one will want the Denver job , but Eric is probably desperate to prove he is HC material and will probably be willing to take on that mess ...

response to Fomerscribe ,i thought it quted..sorry
