WOW I am stunned and saddened at this. I was looking forward to them retiring his number this week with him there. I met him once and from all accounts not only was he a GREAT Football player and a Steeler Legend, he was a super nice person as well. Prayers to his family. RIP Franco

I have this picture of the immaculate reception. It's signed by Franco and one of the Raiders. I always like looking at it.

Now even more do I hope we rip the Raiders lungs out this Sunday. I am transitioning from the shock and entering into the pissed off stage. Horrible timing with the game coming up, Christmas, New Years, anniversary. His Will be done. RIP. JMO>

This may not be a popular opinion but I would not be opposed to Najee HARRIS wearing #32 one last time for this week only in Franco's honor.

The timing of it all is just unreal.

But Franco was known for his unreal timing.

More than just the great football player he was Franco was a tremendous human being and was just a humble person who made time for everybody.

Imagined being asked the same questions millions of times over 50 years and always smiling answering and being humble.

Hall of fame player, Hall of fame person..

Seems like everyone in Pittsburgh would tell you a Franco Harris story where they met him.

    He will be sadly missed....

I remember the first time I saw Franco Harris in person. I was nine years old and my dad took me to see a summer training camp. He was larger than life. He Carrie’s our offense his first few years he was with the team. He has served as an amazing ambassador to our team. Shame he could not make it to this weeks ceremony. Right now , our franchise should learn from this incident and retire Terry Bradshaw jersey early next year. His health has been failing too and no one needs to wear 12 ever again.

Maybe. More likely, they add a tag to the beginning or the end.

I've been trying to explain who Harris was to my students this morning. Most of them have no clue. A few were at least familiar with the Immaculate Reception.

This sums it up pretty well. Football is one of those unifying places where we can escape politics and all the other crap for three hours a week. We know that our gridiron warriors are only human, but they fight for us. We don't worship them, but they are true life heroes and praiseworthy. We are fans of the GREATEST sports franchise in history and Franco is one of our all time heroes. RIP Franco and I pray you now belong on the ultimate team in heaven.

In his rookie year Franco pulled the Salvation Army kettle in a holiday parade. Seems small, but I remember the video, Sam Nover commented on how popular this kid was becoming. There was a rough patch when he left for Seattle, but nothing that could not be forgotten. He was and forever will be for me the standard of what Steeler football should be.
