If Pickett can’t play…

Discussion in 'Steelers Talk' started by JackAttack 5958, Dec 11, 2022.

Who should start if Kenny can’t?

If Ramon Foster can be believed the hit that Kenny took was 100% the result of him not knowing the pass blocking scheme, or not being able to read the defense. The offensive line and RB did everything correctly, Kenny should have gotten rid of the ball immediately and not tried to extend the play.

Kenny needs to play to learn these things and needs the time on the field to get better. Having him sit out the rest of the year so we can get a better offensive line is not going to make Kenny a better QB.

It is always interesting to listen to Ramon break down the blocking schemes on his show.

foster is saying the center should take the right blitzer because the RB is offset left, and foster keeps saying the center did the right thing by not blocking the left LB. Who gives a crap about the center, it’s the left guard that messed up!

Interesting, yet in this case, he is wrong. Dotson said as much.

Foster talked about how the Center was not assigned to pick up the LB - Foster didn't talk at all about Dotson. I now dismiss anything coming out of Foster's mouth as he clearly didn't even try watching the play before opening his trap.

The part that concerns me more is this:
Roquan Smith is 8 yards off the ball and by all accounts, you would think he sees the play as dead. He doesn't.
Pittsburgh has 2 OL and one even checks Smith. They allow him to pursue 8 yards at a sack pace...
Had Kenny not lost his footing, certainly understandable, he probably would have tossed the ball away.

The hot read - The LB did not go with the TE, he follows Warren. Screenshot 2022-12-13 121521.jpg the TE

Mason is now on the board as a possible starter for this week's game.

    https://www.steelers.com/news/mike-tomlin-wait-and-see-approach-kenny-pickett-concussion-steelers
If he is not able to get the required practice time in, Tomlin said he would make a decision this week regarding whether it will be Mitch Trubisky or Mason Rudolph to lead the Steelers (5-8) against the Panthers (5-8).

"If he's unable to work, we'll divvy those reps up between Mitch and Mason," Tomlin said. "We'll play both guys in a practice setting in an effort to make a determination what's best as we lean in on the latter part of the work.

Like I said, I have to be careful in what I can say. I have no idea who reads or participates in this forum. I do know some behind the scenes issues and I will leave it at that. As far as Mason earning it, he deserved a legit shot at starting. Although his play was spotty, he was still fairly effective and knew the system well. Now you can say he did not look that good but given the fact that the Steelers in general have not looked that good over the last couple of years is an indication that given this offensive scheme, no one was going to look good.

As I said before, what does it really matter. No one likes him in Pittsburgh. They boo him, the press hates him and the fans, well, they hate him too. So, even if he does get the nod in the weeks to come, what will it mean? He won't ride pine in Pittsburgh. He wants a chance to play and it is time to move on. The best thing for him to do if he plays is to play well and work himself into another job on another team. That will be his motivation since he has no real future in Pittsburgh.

Basically, he was given 6-7 games to prove himself which is hardly enough time to prove he is good enough to start or not. Pickett will get 4 years to prove his worth and from the looks of things, he is going to need it.

Well…looks like Steeler fans overwhelmingly want Rudolph to start tomorrow over Mitch, 82% to 18%. Let’s see if Tomlin reads this board and names him the starter later today, lol.

“I love this team. Well, at least my teammates.”
