This is awful, second concussion in 8 weeks. Thats two brain injuries in two months. This is bad.

Muth is also had bad luck with them.

Thats two young players that are supposed to be a big part of the puzzle for the future of this team.

Pickett ? I put this in game thread ... It should have been roughing the passer on both those hits, though that doesn't help Pickett. They were straight shots on QB where the turnstiles did nothing to block.

Yes, Pickett. I knew I was going to have a brain fart with their names one of these week.

Let’s see how they deal with this one, if they give him an extended period of time to recover.

I’m very concerned about that. I know he’s 6’3” and 220, but he seems somewhat slight and fragile. Two concussion on what seemed like fairly insignificant hits, especially the first one. I’m starting to worry that Pickett may not be tough enough for AFC North football. Really sucks.

Concussions are more about luck than toughness. It’s not like peoples brains are more muscular than others.

I agree with your concerns though. Not a good situation for a guy you are hoping is the next franchise QB.

He just seems fragile. Maybe I’m judging him in light of Big Ben, one of the toughest QBs I’ve ever seen play, but I’m very concerned about the concussions. Smith slammed him down like a rag doll. By the way, in watching the highlights did Pickett come back in AFTER his concussion and then come back out? What the crap was that all about?

He got spun around and hit his head on the ground hard. It was similar to Tua’s second concussion where he clenched up. Not an insignificant hit by any means

I get it but I’ve seen a lot worse. Looks like his momentum might have contributed as well. And the fact the freaking RATTURD Smith had his face mask didn’t help. Was there really no penalty called there?

Yup, he came back in and then left. The spin job on that should be fun.

Pickett should be held out for at least next week if not longer. If Trubisky starts next week he should be on a short leash. I believe more in Mason than I do Trubisky.

He’s in concussion protocol. Doesn’t necessarily mean he has a concussion.

It's highly likely given that he cleared the initial tests and then left the game because of symptoms.

Look to me like he got away from the first guy. He was out of the pocket and had a couple of seconds to throw the ball away before Smith got a hold of him. Bad move on his part. Throw the dam ball away.

A concussion is, by definition, a brain injury.

Yeah it's very disconcerting to say the least. As it pertains to kenny is why I've been baffled in the rush to get him on the field and get crushed in a obvious rebuild year. Can't see what harm it would have done. With muth it comes with the position but isn't any easier to come to terms with because the dude could be a stud if he stays healthy and they get him the ball.

Concussion protocol is not a brain injury. It's a precaution that prevents them from playing.

There's no such thing as a tough brain. If your head hits the ground hard enough you're going to end up with a concussion. Some guys are more symptomatic than others, some hide it better than others, but brains are fragile things. His head hit the ground pretty hard.

I just hope it’s not a lingering issue. And I realize one brain is as tough as the other, it just seems that Pickett is kinda slight and fragile and on both of his concussions was thrown around (pushed down on the first one) like a rag doll. Hopefully the strength and conditioning program the Steelers have can put a little more muscle on those bones.

Being in concussion protocol would indicate a player is having symptoms or displaying signs of a concussion, which is a brain injury.

Being in the conclusion protocol twice in like 5 minutes isn't a good sign..

Not worried about it yet but it's not good. Give him a week. We're not playing for anything other than evaluating players for next season. Mitch showed he has not progressed from his early years; still has some ability but makes too many mistakes to be a starter. I'd give Mason the start. He's been a good soldier.

If Kenny can’t start I agree 100%. Let Mason start. He’s better than Mitch anyway.

Sidney Crosby has had at least three. the most serious of which cost him nearly a whole season. He has still played the better part of 17 seasons. Concussions are a weird, unpredictable thing. No matter, two in such a short period of time are alarming.

I agree. I can't see any reason not to give him a shot at this point.
